Welcome to the club Brother Man! You might look at some different single 18650 battery lights with a Cree XM-L LED? Or maybe some SST-50s or SST-90s. Some SSC-P7s might claim a little more than 1000 lumens. I have 3 lights that use a single 18650 and an SSC-P7 - all rated at 900 lumens...

who made this light? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wX3PsoZHTL4 i think i'll attempt a build similar to this. most likely will use a smaller LED for better run time.
