Looking for a brighter light.

Im looking for a bright low budget mc-e or p7. I have a mg PLI that is an mc-e but I was reading that that light only makes about 300 lumens OTF. Do any of these DX or KD lights really put out the advertised 700-900 lumens? How about 500? Also the mg runs off of 2 123s, Will a single 18650 light be brighter? I am trying to keep the price around 50 bucks so any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would really like to limit the battery to 2 123s or 1 18650 if possible.

Limiting the amount of batteries will limit your output by a good bit. I'd say the best you can acheive with a single 18650 or two 123's is maybe a bit over 300 lumens OTF max. There is a limit to the efficiency and brightness of the emitter/circuit as well as a limit on the amps you can safely draw from the batteries.

That statement is not correct, one 18650 battery can power a light with more then 500lumens easily. But the deciding factor is his $50.00 budget, I have a P60 drop-in built by nailbender that puts out over 500 OTF lumens gauranteed that runs off an 18650. I also have a Moddoo P60 drop-in that he recommends we use an AW 18650-26 battery that he claims 1400 emitter lumens but I'll be happy with 1000 OTF lumens. But none of those drop-ins cost less then $50.00.

But what you said about two Cr123's is correct. They just dont have enough juice to power a light safely at currents over 2.5A.

You can think about nailbenders linger special, $45.00 for a dual XPG R4 that puts out about 500 OTF lumens but you will have to buy a host.

I have just been getting into the Li-ion thing and I had no idea about 18650's being able to put out so much amps. Thanks for correcting me.

I think i might save up for a nailbender dropin then. Anyone know what they run?

Start with the bigchelis 10.5" sphere thread (link in my sig), and the MrGman sticky at the top.

Surf through all that info, ~350-400 "real" lumens OTF is easily obtainable from an IMR 18650, and an optically coated lens.

I dunno man. Why do you need a brighter light?

The MG PLI has a MC-E that is driven about as high as you can drive one.

I dont think you will see much difference between it and any of the other 500-700ish lumen lights. I am just curious why you need more light.

I would second the trustfire recommendation. I considered getting one and I think its the most lumens for your dollar. With 3x18650 it is a beast. You can see the comparison video between a cheapo P7 1x18650 and it and there is definitely a difference.

That is really the only option, aside from going with an XTAR Howitzer or Olight SR90, both of which cost 200 bucks or more.

Well I definitely don't NEED a brighter light but I would like one. I was just wondering if any of the other quad die lights were brighter but it seems like they're not. It looks like the sst-50s are going to be brighter so I will just wait until those start rolling out at a decent price.
