I'm looking for a Cree powered flashlight that has a fat/wide hot spot. DX has a ton of lights, but it's hard to tell from the descriptions if any have a nice flood or not. I don't want a 'thrower', I have a Raidfire for that.

This is primarily for close up sort of stuff where a spot beam would not be useful.

I would prefer it to run off 18650 or 17670 because of the added run time and ease of charging.

I suppose a flashlight of this nature would have a short reflector instead of a deep one... but I'm no expert.

Thanks!

I'd suggest the MTE SSC P7 900-Lumen 5-Mode Super LED Flashlight (18650). It has a rather large P7 LED and has a big hotspot. the orange peel reflector isn't too deep either. It has a floody beam shape and could fit your bill.
I have the RaidFire Spear too. The MTE is a little smaller and would be a good complement, at under 45 bucks it's not too expensive either. Just don't expect Surefire quality from it.
BTW, 900 lumens is a "little" exaggerated. Seems more like 350-400 to me.

Thanks for the suggestion. Does your P7 have that dark spot in the center of the beam too? The other thing is run time. It seems with a draw like the P7 is noted for it would use up the battery pretty fast.

I just noticed that there is a similar thread to mine already posted... Funny, I've been going to ask this question for several weeks and today i finally remembered.

Well he did start with DX. Some of the DX lights can be easily opened and the reflector can be removed and an optic like this can be placed in it's place.

I don't have a list of easily modded lights, you'll have to ask around.

An optic is similar to a reflector as it redirects the light to the source.

The donut hole is only slightly visible when I'm hunting white walls. During use I never notice it.
Runtime is around 1 hour on high mode with slightly diminishing brightness.
