Looking for a hotwire bulb

I'm looking to start up a new hotwire. For the host I have a mag 2 1/4 D which will accomodate 4 18650's 2sx2p to achieve 7.2v steady. I was originally planning on doing a ROP but I was wondering what other bulbs there are that are a little higher output than a mag85 but running at 7.2v?

I understand that I may need a bi-pin holder if I go that route, where can I find one, haven't looked too hard for it but it's be easy if I had a link.

Any bulbs someone can recommend that put out 800-1000 bulb lumen? Is there a list somewhere that people look at to find these bulbs, lol?

That is the ideal host for the phillips 5761 which will give you just under 900 torch lumens, 1336 bulb lumens. You will need a pr to bi pin adapter. I will give you a PM on that in a moment. The 5761 is the same diameter as the ROP bulb. Works very well for throw and has a huge beam in smo reflectors. I was going to build a configuration like this once just for the 5761.

Looks like a good place to start, it seems all the higher wattage bulbs are bi-pin, is this the case often? I guess I'm looking for something in the 30-50w range but at rated at 6w?

I'm using LG cells.

PMed you back Northern Lights 😉

How many Ah are your cells rated for? I know BatterSpace makes unprotected 2600 mAh cells that I had absolutely great success with, and so did some others that tried them on the 5761. I used only one series set, in parallel you will have 5400mAh, an hour run time. If you want protection for about $4 they sell a board for sidexside 18650 in two Amperages, put that on each side by side series set and you got a great protected light. To get that output I built a MagCharger on 12 Sanyo 2700s (Powerx AA will work too) but look at the size difference of the two hosts. With the boards you can charge the series pair in series. A charging jack may be plausible, but each 2cell pack would have to be balanced.
High watt bulbs are going to be bi-pin. I can tell you I have melted the solder in Pelican ROP bulbs, un-potting them. The other bulbs are hotter yet. That could be one reason you do not find such bulbs in PR bases, the heat.

Actually I have too melted the solder in the ROP high bulb... thought it was maybe a fluke since I did a runtime test and had it running for an hour with no ill effects, the 2nd time was about the same runtime but the light must have gotten too hot.

My cells are the 2600mah cells, so far I have been thinking about protection but as it stands now I'm leaving it out, possible for the future though.

I'm gonna go ahead and order a few bulbs to play around with, any more opinions for the time being? I may as well pick up a few different ones. 15w-40w range

Also, does anyone have a source for rare earth magnets, I'm looking all over for them at a decent price

Ok so far I have the 5761 bulb, bi pin adapter, and I'm thinking a MOP reflector, what do you guys suggest to go with it? I have a SMO for my ROP and there's lots of artifacts... I don't mind it so much but I'd prefer fewer, and more sidespill...

I prefer the VLOP with the 5761. The filament is more compact, so the beam looks better then the ROP's.

I would get a MOP for your ROP (poet), and use the SMO with the 5761.
