Hello I am looking for a new EDC, I think I would like to try a 219 Torch as for the sort of tasks I will use this for I think I would like a HCRI emmiter, although I dont like Yellow warm tints or anything extreamly cold and blue, I like slightly above or below neutral so I think a 219 would be nice to try.

I will post the table below and fill it out, if you need any other suggestions please let me know, I currently am considering a Olight S10L2 as it looks nice and small and the magnet is cool, but not essential although its not a nice HCRI Emiiter.

AND ITS BLACK AND I DONT WANT ANOTHER BLACK FREAKING LIGHT!!!! WHY OH WHY are so many lights black, lazy MFGS!!!! (sorry rant over, this is a pet peeve of mine....):sigh::rant:

So am looking at other suggestions.

p.s I am in the UK so will be looking to purchase from a UK online dealer. (With the exception of Custom lights I dont mind ordering from members like Vihn.)

1) How would you prefer to purchase the light?

____I would like to purchase the light in person from a brick and mortar store. I am located in ______________.
__x__This will be mail-order or Online (location doesn't matter).

2) Budget: An easy question, but you may change your mind after answering the rest! :)

____I don't know yet
____Up to $25.
__x__Up to $50. OR JUST OVER BUDGET IS AROUND £40 BUT CANT STRECH TO £50 FOR SOMETHING REAL SPECIAL.
____Up to $100.
____Up to $200.
____Up to $300.
____Essentially unlimited.

3) Format:

____I am not sure, please help me decide.
__X__I want a flashlight (hand held/self contained).
____I want a self-contained headlamp.
____I want a headlamp with an external pack/power source.
____I want a mounted light (typically for a bicycle or vehicle)
____I want a lantern/area light.
____I want a portable spotlight (it may have an external power source).
____Other ____________________________________________

4) Size:

____MICRO - Keychain size.
__X__TINY - Every day carry (2-4 inches).
____SMALL - Every day carry (4-7 inches).
____MEDIUM - Holster/belt ring carry. (>7 inches)
____LARGE - Big enough to need its own travel case.
____I don't know/I don't care.

5) Emitter/Light source:

__X__LED (known for efficiency, longevity, and compactness) OR I WILL ACCEPT SOME NEW JUST DISCOVERD ALEIN LASER TECH....KIDDING.
____Incandescent (known for superior color rendition)
____HID (known for max output, but often at the expense of size)
____I don't know

6) Manufacturer:

__X__I want to buy a light from a large/traditional manufacturer that is ready to go out of the box.
_X___I would like a light from a specialty manufacturer (Possibly limited run/Custom IF BUGET ALLOWS I WOULD LOVE A MODDED LIGHT (NOT CUSTOM MADE) FROM THE LIKES OF VIHN OR SIMULAR.
____I am interested in assembling my own components. (for example a "host" or flashlight body from one manufacturer, and a "drop-in" emitter from another source).

7) What power source do you want to use?

____I intend to use "Primary"/Disposable Alkaline batteries based on the usual AAA/AA/C/D sized cells common to most stores.
____I intend to use "Primary"/Disposable Lithium batteries based on the usual AAA/AA/C/D and CR123 sized cells common to most stores (often a cold weather or long storage choice).
____I intend to use Rechargeable cells (NiMH or NiCD) based on the usual AAA/AA/C/D sized cells common to most stores.
__x__I intend to use Rechargeable cells based on less common formats (18500 or 18650 Li-Ion, RCR123, et-al) RCR123 PREFERRED. 14500 IS A SECOND OPTION THOUGH.
____I want a light with an integrated rechargeable battery pack.
____I don't know/I need more information on power sources.

7a) If you have selected a rechargeable option
____I want a light that plugs directly into the wall (literally with prongs built into the light)
____I want a light that has a recharging adapter (your typical "wall wart")
____I want a light that snaps into a cradle (usually mounted on a wall)
__X__I want a separate/stand-alone charger (this involves removing the batteries to charge)
____I don't care

8) How much genuine out the front (OTF) light do you want/need? Sometimes you can have too much light (trying to read up close up with a 100 lumen light is not a happy experience).

__X__I want to navigate a dark room or read a map (1-10 lumens).
__X__I want an indoor "blackout" light (15-50 lumens)
__X__I want to confidently walk around an unlit/unpaved rural area (60-150 lumens).
__X__I want to illuminate my entire backyard or a campsite (150-300 lumens). ONLY NEEDS TO BE BURST AROUND 300-500 IS NICE.
____I want to illuminate an entire field, the neighbor's front yard several houses down, impress my friends and neighbors, etc. (300-700 lumens).
____I want search and rescue type illumination (800+ lumens).

__X__SPECIAL NOTE: Burst/Turbo mode Category - There are several lights that will run at a super bright maximum for a very limited period (usually 5-10 minutes) and then will "step-down" to a lower level for thermal control. Check here if this is acceptable.

9) Flood vs Throw: Flood covers an area, Throw reaches out to a distance.

_X___All Flood: I am doing "arms length" tasks like reading and campsite cooking WANT VERY WIDE FLOOD, NOT A FAN OF A BRIGHT HOTSPOT, LIKE EVEN FLOOD ON SMALL LIGHTS
__X__Wide Flood: I want a defined flood area for semi-close tasks like after-dark campsite tasks or working on a cars IF THE ABOVE IS TO LIMITING I DONT MIND A WEE BIT OF THROW BUT NOT A LOT.
____Narrow Flood: I want a sharply defined flood area that will project some distance for tasks like trail walking.
____Wide Throw: I want a beam with a noticeable hot-center for distance throw and a significant amount of "side-spill". Good for rough trail hiking, search and rescue, and general distance work.
____Narrow Throw: I want a beam with a very tight "hot center" and minimal "side-spill". Good for distance viewing, fog, and looking through dense undergrowth.
____Turbohead: I want a far-distance projector with a sharply focused spot of light and minimal or zero side-spill. Good for extreme distance and impressing your friends.

9a) Distance: How far away will you typically need to see with this light (check all that apply)
__X__Less than 1 yard/meter (reading, other close work)
__X__Less than 5 yards/meters (looking for something inside a dark shed/garage/basement)
__X__5-20 yards/meters (check out a noise in the backyard)
____30-50 yards/meters (I have a big backyard)
____50-150 yards/meters (I live in a very rural area/farm with wide open spaces)
____150+ yards (I am searching from a helicopter)

10) Runtime: Not over-inflated manufacturer runtime claims, but usable brightness measured from first activation to 50% with new batteries (Measured on maximum continuous output).

____Up to 30 minutes (I want the brightest [and potentially smallest] light for brief periods)
__X__30-60 minutes (I have plenty of batteries just ready to be changed) ON HIGHER MODES
__X__90-120 minutes (Runtime is moderately important, but still not critical) ON A LOWER MODE (50-100l)
____3 hours + (I critically need this light to run on max for extended periods in between battery changes/charges).

11) Durability/Usage: Generally the old phrase "you get what you pay for" is very accurate for flashlights.

____Not Important (A "night-stand" light).
___X_Slightly Important (Walks around the neighborhood).
__X__Very Important (Camping, Backpacking, Car Glove-box).
____Critical (Police, Fire, Search & Rescue, Caving, Survival).
____I don't know.

12) Switch Size, Type, and location (choose all that apply):

____Any size switch will do.
____I need a BIG switch (I'll be using gloves or have very large hands or coordination issues).
_x___I want a forward clicky (Helpful for momentary activation and signaling).
_x___I want a reverse clicky (For use with multi-mode/level lights).
_x___I want a momentary switch (Predominantly for use with signaling and short bursts of momentary light only).
____I want a twisty switch (Tighten the head/tailcap to activate, and the light will stay on until the head/tailcap is loosened).
__x__I want a body mounted switch (near the head, like on a Maglite).
_x___I want a tail mounted switch (found on the majority of today's high end lights).
____I want a remote switch (usually found on high-end bicycle headlights)
____I don't care.
____I don't know.
____Other, please specify____________________. NO TWISTYS

13) User Interface (UI) and mode selection. Select all that apply.

____A simple on-off with only one output level is fine for me.
____I want 2 light levels. (Brighter/short runtime and Dimmer/long runtime.)
__X__I want multiple light levels. (Some lights have 5-16 light levels I LIKE MODES BUT SIMPLE UI IS A MUST, I LOVE CONTROLL RINGS / MAGNETIC RINGS, NO SILLY ZEBRALIGHT LIKE UIS HERE PLEASE!
____I want a programmable light.
__X__I want a selector ring.
____I want a strobe mode. (Oscillating pattern to confuse/blind aka "Police Mode") NOT NEEDED BUT NICE TO HAVE
____I want SOS mode. (blinks in ---...--- emergency pattern) NOT NEEDED BUT NICE TO HAVE
____I want a beacon mode. (Regular flashes at full power to show location.) NOT NEEDED BUT NICE TO HAVE.
____I don't care.
____I don't know.

14)Material/Finish/Coating

____Plastic/composite body (this may limit your choices significantly).
_X___Anodized Aluminum – either type II or III (Hard Anodized) (Aluminum, specifically HA, is the most common material/finish for today's higher end flashlights). ANY COLOUR BUT BLACK IS PREFERED, EVEN PINK!
__X__Stainless steel (durable, but much heavier than aluminum)
_X___Titanium (durable and nearly as lightweight as aluminum, but can be moderately to significantly more expensive).
____I don't care.
____I don't know.
____Other, please specify___________NO BLACK ,DARK COLOURS OK BUT NO BLACK, NEVER EVER!

15) Water resistance
____None needed
__X__IPX4 (Splash resistant)
____IPX7 (Waterproof to 1 meter/30min)
____IPX8 (Submersible to greater than 1 meter for 4 hours)

16) Storage conditions
____In house (temperature/climate controlled environment)
____Emergency kit (long standby periods)
____Automobile glove-box (wide temperature swings, long standby periods, critical reliability)
___X_Other_________________________________________ ____WILL BE ON A CLIMBING CLIP / IN A POCKET / ON BELT / LARGE SET OF KEYS.

17) Special Needs/extras: Is there anything else you want or need that hasn't been mentioned? Select any/all below.

____Red filter (for preserving night vision).
____Other filter colors (Amber, Green, Blue, _________).
____Dedicated R/G/B secondary LEDs.
____"Hybrid" light (bright incandescent combined with long running LEDs)
____Pocket/belt clip
____Holster
____Wrist/Neck Lanyard
____Crenulated bezel
____Non-sparking, Intrinsically Safe (IS) for use in explosive environment
WOULD LIKE A LANYARD ATTACHMENT PLACE.

Thanks all!

oh and one last thing, NO BLACK! hehe....

So yhea I am struggling to find what I am looking for it it even exsits....

I would recommend the Prometheus Beta-QR, though it might not check all of your boxes above.

Zebralight SC52W, takes AA, Eneloops, nimh AA and 14500. When fitted with a 14500 it gives 500 lumens for the first minute and then steps down to 280.

It has a side button, no tail clicky. I have one and I'm very pleased with it, it's my EDC as its so small.

Short click turns on the light to High or turns off the light.
Long click (press and hold for about 0.6 seconds) turns on the light to Low.

They are available form a uk retailer that's call LED Fire Torches.
It comes with a belt clip that I changed on mine for a titanium one. You could easily attach a lanyard to the belt clip.

http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?356918-Zebralight-SC52-way-to-secure-it

£55 so its slightly over your budget but IMHO its worth it.

Thanks guys, The HCRI is not Needed just a nice extra but need to be at least a nice nutral (although I really do want to try a 219), can go without, the important parts are simple UI / Decent output (300-500 on turbo and middle medium and a low mode, possibly moonmode) CANT BE BLACK, and very floody, 14500/cr123 (RCR123) TailMagnet is nice but not needed, and has to be small so I can be faily flexible.

I forgot to say Im not a fan of Zebralight UI / customer service track record from what have read even though there lights are nice other than that, I put EagalTac in my discroption but meant zebra light I will change that!

Im gonna cheack out that Prometheus but I think that is a expensive custom is it not?

EDIT: I see that the QR is a custom made kinda, but is avilble to buy not something you have to wait for, however it is out of stock, but it looks nice, although no lions is not great.

Oh thats not fair!

EagleTac for 2014 have realsed a TI version of the D25Clicky.... UI looks complicated but might be one to consider, D25C Clickly TI 219....looks nice! They have also released a multicolour flashlight but I have no need for that.

I was not inrested before as they were black but this changes things, keep the suggestions comeing though. Haveing said that it is out of my price range TBH.

The supbeam S50 looks very similar to the new Thrunite T10S
the T10S is stainless, and uses the XP-G2 whereas the S50 uses the XPG
Supbeam notes the tint to be the beautiful R5, and Thrunite does not list their tint.

You might contact Thrunite and ask if you can get it in the R5 tint. If so... it might be a contender for your key-chain.

Supbeam Specifications:
1:Cree XP-G LED (R5) with lifespan of 50,000 hours
2:Four modes of output: firefly(0.09lumens 147hours) -> Low (30 lumens,
13hrs ) -> High (120 lumens, 1.5hrs) without
memory (Tested with Ni-mh battery with actual capacity 2500mAh)

^ Thanks.

I have also been looking at the Jetbeam RRT01 (But its not HCRI), or then back to the Olight I mentioned (But its black), And then I keep looking at the Eagaltac, the eagal tac seems to to offer most of what I want, its just a bit over budget, but coupon code might bring it down a bit, and eagal tac have also released there RGB light / sportac dropins, wich I like all of, just seems like 2014 is easgaltacs year so far....Im serriosuly tempted to get the eagalTac...ahh dam this hobby is expensive!!!

looks good...good price to...still drawn to that damed eagltac though.. =( My wallet hates my hobbys...

Olight S10 Ti? I have an S20 L2 (black, sorry) and it's a very nice light. btw I hear you about the Zebralight UI -- I love everything about my ZL except for that. Or -- my second favorite small light after the ZL -- a Nitecore SRT3 in dark grey? Takes RCR/CR123 and AA/14500. Control ring with strobe, SOS and beacon.

Just realized (after converting pounds to dollars) that these may be stretching your budget….

How small do you want it? If you want it to actually carry nice on a Keychain I would definitely check out MBI HF or a darksucks beat-qr.

Thank you all very good suggestions, I might PM vihn and see if he has any TI D25 clickys left when I am ready to buy, and see if he might be able to replace with a 219, I have looked at the Eagaltac and just realized I can only find the 2014 TI CW not 219.

Regards to the size question, anything under 3-3.5 inches, as its not super small keying (Its acutaly going on a DMM Climbing clip along with some other tools like a small knife / lighter as a EDC Ring kinda thing, with keys as well XD)

Did not know they made the Olight in TI, and dark grey is cool, as much as i like bright colours that is asking too much, I just dont like the whole black thing.

(I can see this is not going to end well and if I ever end up with some decent money can see me going to some custom Dama steel / Ti lights one day, I swore this would never happen, Id only stick to "Production lights" but the more I look the more picky I come haha, one day maby!)

I think I am going to end up with an egaltac / Olight most likely, thanks for all your anwsers guys, your a great help!! Nice to have such a helpfull fourm!
