I'm interested in getting a hand held HID flashlight. :naughty: I would like something sized similarly to a 3D maglite. I'm also not trying to spend a pile of money. What are some good suggestion? :anyone: Should I stay away from DX, Ebay, All-Battery.com, etc type HID lights? :eek:oo:

Edit: Oh yeah, I want it to be rechargeable, so I'm not interested in something that runs on CR123a batteries.

What do you consider a pile of money?
Probably less than I need to get what I want from what I've seen. I was hoping for $250 max

Edit: After doing some additional searching it doesn't look like any decent HID handheld is going to fall into the amount of money I'm willing to pay. I guess I'll have to keep my eyes on the Sell forum.

Wolf Eyes Boxer 123X from pts-flashlights.com... with the CPF discount it's easily within your reach. It's not 3D sized (quite a bit smaller) but an awesome performer for the $.

Isn't that a CR123A light? / not rechargeable?

For a handheld HID, I think the best value is going to be something like the AE Xenide line.
I've got the 25W, and I can recommend it 100%.

Yes, it's a little over $400, but that's not "that" far away from your target cost of $250 if you just be patient and save up a few more dollars in the next month or so.

The Boxer 10W 123X is the only model which only runs on CR123's. All the other models are rechargeable.

I wholeheartedly agree on the AE Xenide suggestions. Fantastic light, the 20W is smaller than a 3d Mag, and the 25W is slightly longer than a 3d. You won't regret it.

If cost is your only concern, then you could try one of these...

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.10558 for $268 shipped.

I have one and it works as advertized. I won't say it's the best out there, but it is bright, cheap, runs a reasonablely long time and just might tie you over until you can buy something more mainstream like an AE Exnide or similar. I wrote a mini reiview of it elsewhere if you search for it. Or, you can keep an eye on the BST section since I'll be selling it as soon as my Exindes comes in. ;)

Hey deeuubee,

That's a nice light! If I had the money I just might buy one for fun!

Not trying to sound/come off as condescending, but you have a spelling error there; it's not Exnide, it's Xenide.:p

See that...I edited it once for spelling and then messed up another word.

Yea, it's a good light. I just need something a little shorter to fit in the back pack.

20w Xenide should be here in about a week. After I compare the two, I'll put it up on BST for around $200.

No worries, it happens to the best of us:twothumbs. You'll love the Xenide 20W, it's an amazing little light.

BTW I'm selling a spare battery for the 20W; if you're interested you can find it in CPF Marketplace.:naughty: My apologies to the mods if I strayed a bit off topic.;)

what is the difference between the AE Xenide and AE powerlight other than output? does one of them produce a tighter beam? because after i get a surefire A2`aviator i plan on getting an AE light. what light is most popular, what has a tighter beam? am i asking to many questions? will all my questions make your head explode?:poof:

:poof: It exploded!:grin2:

The Xenide series is more compact, ergonomic and weighs less. I believe someone on CPF claimed the Xenide 20W beam seems brighter than the PL 24W, despite the PL having 100 more lumens. You can get exact specs at http://www.aelight.com. As for popularity I want to say the Xenide is most popular, but it's hard to say. There aren't a whole lot of Xenide/Powerlight owners here on CPF. You want my take?

GET THE XENIDE!!!:D You will burn peoples heads clean off walking down the street!:faint:

i love burning peoples heads off! J/K i plan on using it on a farm type areal, so i wont find many heads to burn off:mecry: it is that bright huh? the highest i have ever seen is my 80 lumen Surefire Led 6p and i was shocked by it.

Mikelip has an AE Light 24W HID PL24 for $250 over on the Marketplace. I had the shorty version of this light for a while and it was the size of a Mag3D, only fatter. Personally, I prefer the really tight beam you get from the HUGE reflector HIDs. That's why I got rid of my shorty. But if you want the handheld size, the AE was very nice.

Well, there's a reason why there are cows out there!:D Ok ok it won't burn heads off, but you can definitely reach out and touch someone 1500-2000 feet away.

You'd love it.
