Hi everyone,
My friend is looking for an EDC LED flashlight running on AAs. He would prefer to have a tail-mounted switch and hopefully stay under $40.

We have gone through a lot of cheap flashlights since they get tossed around a lot on set and now we are looking for something a little more reliable if one exists in that price range. Output isn't really a concern, just looking for reliability.

Thanks in advance!

:welcome:You could also look into Eagle Tac. Both their P100A2, andP20A2 use AA's. While I have neither of these, I've had great results with my P20C2 and T20C2 MKII XP-G. And from what I've read , it seems to be a quality brand light. You could also get a Neutral White in either of those, which will add a little more color than a cool white. Though the output will drop a little bit.

I agree that you need to up the budget to 50 bucks. Then go to goinggear, flashlights, 2xAA and browse through all the options. Look for an XP-G emitter. The XM-L that you may see isn't really any brighter and costs significantly more. The XP-E is an older emitter. Still fine but XP-G will be a bit better overall.

Take a look at TERRALUX-BRIGHT-LED-FLASHLIGHT-TORCH-220-LUMENS-TLF3C2AAEX. Its runs about $27 with batteries and shipping. It's one heck of a light. It has 2 modes HI-220 lumens (1 1/2 hour runtime) and Low-100 lumens (6 hour runtime).

Terralux flashlights don't always get the attention that some brands do here at CPF but they offer excellent value for the money, are well designed and they are built like tanks. The Terralux LightStar 300 (TLF-3002AA) or the lower priced and lower output LightStar 220 (TLF-3C2AAEX) might be good candidates for your consideration considering your price range. Keep in mind that you will see these lights selling for a surprisingly wide range of prices and the best thing to do would be a search for the best deal.

BTW, these lights have one of the better designed, most comfortable (in the hand) clips in the industry. (IMHO)

XP-G is a very good all-around performer and value. I would suggest, before spending a dime, take your friend to a shop and see which body styles and interfaces he prefers, that would really help narrow it down a lot. You never really know about these things until you handle them personally. The interface makes a big difference and is a very subjective thing depending on the user.

There is the Xeno E03, it takes a single AA, and has the new XM-L emitter. It's around $30
