I've recently upgraded my Fenix L2D CE with a Q5 model. I'm not too sure how I feel about this, as my original L2D, despite it's scratches, seemed like it would last a lifetime. What I'm interested in is getting a light such as the SF 6P, G2L, Wolf Eyes Defender/Defender II, etc., and hanging onto it, and upgrading the LED as new ones come out. I feel a little weird buying a new light every time a better diode comes out that is worth upgrading to. My L2D CE was a quantum leap over any previous LED light I've owned, and even over some of my incandescents, except my SF M3 with HOLA. I still love that light. :)

So my question is, what is the best host and battery combination to accommodate the latest LED? I'm thinking along the lines of a WE Defender/Defender II, and AW's 18650's or RCA123A's, along with a Q5 module from Malkoff or BOG, (or possibly WE itself, now that it's out) and an Ultrafire charger.

I realize that the latest Fenix models cost only slightly more than a drop in module, and that's why I went with the L2D Q5, as opposed to simply buying a module for my old G2.

So what is the cutting edge relating to this, what is the best host that will take 18650's and a BOG/Malkoff upgrade without problems (especially relating to voltage from 18650/RCR 123A's)?

I'm thinking along the lines of a WE Defender/Defender II, which comes with a WE Q5, or a BOG/Malkoff Q5, AW's 18650's, and an Ultrafire charger.

Will this be ok?

I have spent a crap load of money on SF parts and aftermarket drop ins, I wish I would of waited and just got a WE light with a Q5 already on board instead of the 6P with extra parts. I love my G2 series SF frankenlights but could of saved a few hundred by just going for the WE to start with. Still would repeat my e series purchases though. Live and learn
Also AW cells are a must!
