Had something strange happen last night and was wondering if anybody else has experienced it or can help me out with it.

Last night I took my M4 to let the dog out. The beam was a sickly yellow. It made no sense as the M4 is a shelf queen and not used.

I ZTS'ed the batteries when I came back in. They were at 0% capacity.:( I don't remember exactly what the batteries were at when I put them in, but I do ZTS each cell to make sure I'm not going to start a back-charge or that they are already dead.

I've put another set of 4 fresh batteries in (ZTS'ed at 100%) and I'm going to monitor this and check it daily. I really don't want any rapid venting w/ flame. :poof:

Now my question: Is there history of the SW02 tailcaps causing low-drain situations? I didn't see anything while searching. My multimeter isn't sensitive enough to allow me to see current passing through the body and tailcap and I doubt the bulb itself would be where the short is. (If there is one)

If the light had been sitting on the shelf and unused for a long time you could have encountered passivation and voltage delay. See this link for an explanation. It is not supposed to happen so much to CR123A batteries, but on occasion it has been seen.

Therefore, if you turn the light on and the beam is yellow, don't give up on it immediately. Leave it on for a minute or two and if the batteries were fresh before it may come back to full brightness.
