Hey people,
after enjoying my hds edc ult 60 xrgt for the last 6 years (has it been that long?) I'm looking for a new light.

There are two factors that count against the hds for this one: weight and type of battery.

what we'll be using it for:
1) At night reading in our tent. (at the moment the hds with a diffuser (actually a transparent white filmcan shoved over the business end (perfect fit)).
2) walking around dark (wild/free camping) campingsites / woods to toilet / water location.

requirements:
1) USB chargeable, and I mean in-light chargeable, that is, stick a (micro/mini) USB in the light and it charges.
so no separate charger. Power comes from either powermonkey or dyno hub on our bicycles, both native USB.
2) LOOOOONG runtime, longer is better.
3) lighter is better.
4) internal battery or supercaps (are there serious lights that use those already?) user replaceable.

Does anybody have any idea as to wether this light exists?
Or where we'll have to compromise?

Thanks for thinking / helping.

have a nice day,
Jurjan

Check out the XTAR A01. It charges any 18650 lithium ion battery inside the flashlight
from any USB source power. Manufacturer says up to 22 hours runtime in low mode.
I have one and think it's great.

I was just thinking maybe if you can live without the USB charging, upgrading the HDS's emitter might be an option?

@sgt. led: I fear it will be, but we'll see.

@ bob4apple: I'll look at that light, sounds good.
Is it a thrower or more of a flood type light?

@ampdude: the amount of light is not the problem, even the 60 is far more than I would ever need in anger (so to speak)

thanks all for reacting

jurjan,
The XTAR has a wide, deep reflector, so it throws exceptionally well, but also
has lots of spill. i would say it is a great thrower, and not for flood-lovers, unless
you use something to diffuse the beam.

@bob4apple: thanks, I was hoping for a floodish type of light, makes reading easier, although with the hds i use a 'diffuser' to good enough effect.
Thanks
