i am looking to build a small cheap flashlight that is as bright as a surefire i saw this video

and was wondering if there are any metal body flashlight "like mags i have them all" what i could use as the body???

A good start to a bright incan is the ROP mod, I think it was 600+ lumens out the front with the high bulb. There are different combinations for all the different sizes of Maglites.

Another mod is the Auroralight Hotwire Kit for the Minimag, about 150+ lumens for 30 minutes.

I think he's talking about a $10 solution, not $100. This topic has been oft-discussed. It's also been done step-by-step on Instructables, twice.

You're probably asking for a metal body since you've read those or other comments that note that the $10 solution will melt after a few minutes.

The cheapest solution is to go to Target and buy a Brinkman Maxfire - they are closing them out at $6.48. It's a metal tube in a plastic/synth rubber body, but is driven by 2 CR123a. Next cheapest is to buy from DealExtreme or Kaidomain - choose "Xenon Flashlights" from the sidebar. Choose any light powered by 2XCR123a or better.

If you really want to build one in a Mag, you'll need a C or D cell Mag. Use heater hose with an inner diameter of about 3/4 inch, as CR123a run 16-17mm. (5/8" is too small). A C cell is 23 mm (about 15/16"), a D cell 33 (about 1 1/3 inch) mm. Search this site for KPR112, KPR113 and KPR118 (I think) for hints on bulbs.

You can do just about any house hold light, in this video I used a Rop low bulb and 3 surefire batteries.
