Ok so I want to mod a light and I've never done anything except q drop in bulb mod (terralux on my ultra stinger). My 1st and biggest question is ease and difficulty. Is it best to mod my mag light, a cheap o light that I have (chinese knock off that I know surefire stuff won't thread onto), or buy a surefire body and start from there?

I know some of you guys are gonna ask what I want out of this light...well that's simple really....everything and nothing. All in all I have no parameters or e expectations involved in this, other then I'm thinking cree on the bulb and at least a couple hundred lumens. I'm just doing it to do it really.

I want to keep it relatively simple, as I don't have the electrical knowledge that a lot here do. I've been reading on a lot of mode here, especially mag light mods, as I have a mag light that I just don't use. It's a stock 2 c-cell version (i think) and I'm not spending money on batts as I have better stock lights available. I'm pretty sure the cheap light that I have is gonna get expensive and complicated, mostly because I have no idea of thread sizes etc, except the body was built for cr123 batts and it was originally incandescent 6v. My other option is to buy q common donor body, ie surefire or something like that, and start there.

I want to get alittle technical, but not way over my head. I have no experience with circuit boards, or electronics, although I have friends that do. I could solicite help from them if necessary, but I'd like it to be my job and learn things from it.
Thanks for the help and turning me into a new hobby, Jason

Also are there support groups for this new addiction?

Do you have a lathe or access to one? If you don't it's probably best to mod the maglite as heatsinks are readily available

I would have to pay somebody with a lathe to do the modifications, as I do not have a lathe. Wish I did...it could be used for a whole bunch of things! Thanks, Jason

That's pretty cool really and appears to be very simple, which is what I need. Thanks 007 for the info. I may have to make this my first actual project.

Think I found my 1st actual mod. Duplicate of a thread already done and seems simple enough. Dropping an SSC P7 bulb in a mag 2c light and probably buying a tailcap kit from a member here, if he still has em. If not, guess I'll try my hand at it. Doesn't look extremely difficult, I just don't wanna blow my hand off with a flaShlight!
