Lower output p60 drop-in

Hi,

Newly registered to the forum, though I've stalked on-and-off for a while.

I was wondering: does anybody other than Malkoff and Surefire make a 1-mode "low output" p60 drop-in? It seems like everybody is churning out the drop-in that can squeeze the most lumens out of an LED. That's nice and all, but sometimes battery longevity is a little more useful. I'm looking for a p60 that a) outputs 50-100 lumens or so, b) has only 1 mode (multiple mode lights are fun, but I don't find them as convenient), c) draw current below 350-450 mA?

Does anybody do this? Or is there some reason why this is physically impossible? (I really have only the haziest ideas about the mechanics of LEDs)

These put out maybe 25 lumens on a fresh CR123/AA's? As a bonus, you can build them yourself, and the parts only cost about $1.39...

Or you can put it in a 3 Cell SF and run it off AA's.

Kestrel started a runtime test on this about 3 years ago, and last week I heard it's down to about 1.5 lumens...

Welcome to CPF by the way!!!

LOL, well, perhaps just a touch of exaggeration ...

But, hmm, do you think ~25 lm? My guess would be more like ~10 on fresh cells? Runtime is simply awesome though - probably the better part of a week if you can deal with going down to 2-3 lumens - still perfectly usable indoors at night even at that level.

I think that the single-mode P60-format runtime champ is still the ~70 lumen Malkoff M60LL on 2xCR123. BigWaffles got 18 hours of regulated runtime from that module on two (not three) fresh SureFire CR123's, and posted the graph in his 'runtime' thread. The M60LL is a fantastic module and one that currently resides in my wife's car SureFire G2.

If I was getting another one however, I would definitely wait until a Malkoff M61WLL becomes available, though.

Welcome!

My recommendation would be to post in Nailbender's thread

http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=282416

As to what you are looking for - read the first posting to see what in general he has to offer (wide variety) and I'm sure he can take care of you or point you in the right direction.

If I remember I think you are at 2 postings so either you have just got PM (private messaging) rights, or you will shortly - but posting in Nailbender's thread will get you up to 3 postings whiuch for sure gets you past the limit needed for PMs.

Nailbender works fast and makes a nice product. The Malkoffs are very nice products certainly but I don't see too many LLs for sale. Similar to an early poster my M60LL is in a G2 in my car (not my wife's).

:welcome:

You know, the P60L (Surefire's delivered LED drop-in) might be a choice if you can't decide. They're discontinued but are still widely available (my local store has two in stock right now). They state 80 lumens, but after doing some research, I found most people said they drop to 70 almost immediately then taper slowly off over the course of a few hours. Might be something to think about.

DX sells a variable output drop in ..

Runs 18650 or 2 x CR123A , has memory ... I love mine ...

From 5Lumen or so and up , current is so low I cant measure it [ lowest setting ]
