Lumilite \'Zenon Rubber\' lights: anyone seen these?

Quote from Lumilite: "Zenon Rubber flashlights from Lumilite. Proven brighter and tougher -- outperforms every other rubber flashlight on the market today. Period!".

Available in 2AA, 2D and 3D sizes and 4D lantern. It appears they use Xenon lamps (hence the catchy name). Here is the website.

Anyone seen these yet?

Re: Lumilite \'Zenon Rubber\' lights: anyone seen these?

I've had several for a couple of years now. Mine is generic, but it is exactly as pictured. Oh...no... wait. It says Lumilite right on the bezel. I have the double AA. It is very bright, but the narrowest beam you've ever seen. Excellent penetration, but almost useless for anything up close. The switch works well, and the rubber case is very tought. BUT, the rubber deteriorates quickly. The two I'ave had in a drawer are perfect. The one that sat on my tool chest in the garage for the same two years has lost it's entire rubber skin. It just dried out and cracked off. Still works, but looks like robo-light now.

Think of it as a slightly brighter Minimag with fresh batteries on the absolutely tightest focus, and you're there.

Darell, thanks for the info. What type of lamp does the 2AA use?

Btw, are you sure you've got exactly the same flashlight as pictured on the site? The reason I ask is because the website states they are "NEW!" and you write that you've had them for a couple of years and I can't really imagine a company calling a product line new after having it for a couple of years. Just checking.

Hmmm. Well let me check on that when I have a sec. There isn't any way I'll be able to tell for sure if the lights are identical unless I get my hands on one of these "new" ones. But after studying the pictures, it would seem mine just has a different pattern in the rubber. Everything else is identical (except maybe the bulb?) I'll grab the bulb out of there when I have a chance and let you know.

Re: Lumilite \'Zenon Rubber\' lights: anyone seen these?

OK. I took the light apart, and here's what the bulb says:

Philips KPR102
2.4V 0.7A HK 14M

The light is very well made, I must say. Robust lamp holder. I don't think you could break this thing short of running over it with the car. My guess is that these "new" lights have one of the modern, brither Krypton bulbs, but is otherwise the same product. My biggest complaint, as I mentioned before, is the reflector. At about 15' I get a spot on the wall about the size of a softball. And it's an ugly, splotchy spot at that. Heck of bright though. Best for signalling.

Re: Lumilite \'Zenon Rubber\' lights: anyone seen these?

The new "Zenon" flashlights have a bulb in it that Lumilite calls "Zenon®" bulbs. Since they provide no information on their site, nor blister packs as to how close they come to being true xenon bulbs, I sent them an email asking, but never got a response. So, I bought a bulb and tried it. I put the bulb into a Maglite that I had previously used a RS xenon bulb. The brightness was equal, but the beam had a more pure circular pattern. I still don't know if they are true xenon, but their bulbs seem to be close in output.

Thanks for the info Darell. Just one more question: is it a regular PR lamp or a miniature / midget PR lamp?

Re: Lumilite \'Zenon Rubber\' lights: anyone seen these?

Velcro,

saw those and they were the source for my Philips Xenon HPX bulbs (HPX20 for the 2D) - actually I talked a bit to a lady from Lumilite support and she gave me the specs on the 3D which seemed to be the HPX30 but didn´t specified the name - actually the HPX bulbs Alan from HK talked about a lot are very nice bulbs which obviusly some or a lot of Xenon inside - and I think these bulbs are the reason for that funny name Lumilite came up with for those flashlights - do a search on HPX on CPF for more on those. Besides the bulbs I wasn´t very impressed with the flashlight itself - if you need a rubber one go for it.

Can anyone of you folks who have one of these please tell me how to open it up? I sent a message to Lumilite, and they haven't responded. (Mine is a "found" item - no instructions.)
