Hi all, Im looking for a light edc light to go on my keyring and i just love love the lights from Lummi. Does anone have any experience with the Ti version and its possible scratch resistenace on a keyring ? Will it resist scratches that much more than the NS version to warrent the much higher price ? or do the TI and Ns versions have similar scratch resistance properties ?

Thanks very much for any of your thoughts on this ! :)

Thanks for your reply! would you say that SS is the most scratch resistant out of all the materials that Rob uses in his great lights ?

IMO yes it is the most scratch resistant material, I have been carrying a SS Exolion on my keychain for months with no real scratching apparent, but keep in mind it is about 50% heavier than Ti.

I have a fenix LO-Ti on one key ring. It lives next to a leatherman micra. The Fenix light has no discernable scratches but is definitely pocket worn after a couple of years.

I would not subject my Wee Ag to keyring duty. I have torn up HAIII coats.

You are considering a light for pocket, keyring duty. I don't think you can go wrong with NS, Ti or SS. All should provide many years of function. I don't think any of them will look they same as new after one year.

I have a tiny pen from J.S. Burly's that is made of titanium, and it's been rattling around in my pocket along with steel tweezers and a steel Sebertool M4 and a P38 can opener for months. The titanium pen is scuffed beyond all belief, to the point you can't tell it was ever shiny, but there is not a single scratch deep enough to feel with my fingernail.

I also have a Raw Ti that I carry in the same pocket sometimes, and since it isn't carried all the time and has a rougher machined surface to start with, it looks brand-new -- the only places you can see any scuffing at all are on the bezel and tailcap, and again there are no significant scratches.

I would say titanium is very susceptible to scuffing, but pretty much impossible to actually damage. Stainless steel is softer, so it will self-polish in your pocket, but given the choice I'd still rather have titanium; it's lighter and it shows its "character" (i.e. age) without any risk of damage or corrosion.

All of that being said, I have a Wee NS in my watch pocket, for two reasons: one, it's sitting next to a steel pocket watch that I don't want to damage; and two, I knew I was going to get a Raw Ti but I wanted to have something made of nickel-silver because I've never seen it before. Other than the damnable tarnish that accumulates on the Wee NS, I have no complaints.

The scratchs with keys, or common keychain items, in titanium are not deep, you can't distinguish it of a polish titanium surface with a band in your eyes, the lines aren't deep.
