Lunasol 20 Question

I just answered my own question in post# 3.......silly me

Hey Guys,

I just picked up a Lunasol 20. My 27 now has a little brother to play with...LOL

Quick question. I am using JS's pic from his review as a reference, hope thats ok.

Do all Lunasol 20's come with this little round ball of solder as shown in the pic. Mine has it as well. I'm just asking because it makes the head feel tighter when twisting from flood to high. I'm just concerned that the pressure against the + battery tab will cause the solder ball to pop off one day.

Work of art by the way....I like it very much :twothumbs

WOW, I think I need to get some sleep :tired:

The tightness I was feeling was due to the glo-ring I added
in that little gap between the head and the body......DOH !!!

Sorry folks....

Mine does, but its kinda leaning over to the side. :)

I think I may have commented on this elsewhere. There is a via in the motherboard (the one you see on the back of the head) for the + lead of the daughter board. This via is not on center but offset by the thickness of the daughter board PCB. There is a lead that comes up from the daughter board through the mother board here and I slide a silver bead over it. The bead is therefor not centered. I fill the bead and flow over the anode circle of the motherboard with silver solder. The result looks like a ball that is leaning away from the center. They are all that way and as a result of the design.

I have a question, I have a 2nd wave LS20, that can run on R123's.

Was the window issue only in the 1st wave, Primary only LS20's?

Thanks, just wondering, cuz I wanna take it into the drink. :D

IIRC, the window problem was with the first batch with the NG400 converter. Hopefully Don can confirm for you.

This is correct. I ordered a new run of sapphire windows with a slightly larger diameter and these have been used in all subsequent LS 20 builds.

I doubt the bead would ever pop off under normal or heavy use.

For every Lunasol that is sent to me for modding I resolder the bead. I do it out of courtesy, no one has ever requested this specifically from me, & it's purely cosmetic. IMO there's nothing wrong with the way it is as it works perfect which is really all that matters. (I hope Don doesn't beat me up for messing with perfection) :grin2: :green: :aaa:

My LS20 went through Darkzero's spa and his work is astonishingly beautiful!
I still carry it everyday.
