Lux3 Sandwiches. Question?

I have a very small qty of Lux3s right now.

I have only 30 Lux3s, so, which sandwich(s) should I make.

The options are:

MM regular - ~600mA drive with fresh batteries.
MM+ - 800mA+ LED drive current.
BB500?700?1A?

others??

I will not make a couple of each. The 30 will be all of one type or at most two modules.

I would try my hardest to be quick enough to buy whatever sandwich you make, but would probably prefer the MM+. In fact, reserve one for me if you can!

If it was a MM or MM+, it would surely be a WO.

I'm not going to fuss with trying to epoxy around the trim pot anymore. I have to many that don't make the epoxy stage and I have to scrape them or re-sell them as WO.

One other thing to note.

The MM+ will not drive 800mA with NiMH. Since the battery voltage is lower the output is correspondingly lower.

Under these conditions the BB750 will actually outperform the Madmax+. If you use a single 123 or the L91s you might get the MM+ to outshine or outdrive the BB750.

The BB750 should be able to maitain full 750mA drive down to below 2V which is most of the power energy band for all types of regular AA cells. the magic cuttoff for Alkalines and NiMH in the testing I've done is right at 2V.

Under heavy demand the battery voltage drops fast to 1.4V in less than 10 minutes or so for both NiMH and Alkaline batteries.

I vote for whatever will be the brightest with NiMHs and will fit into a minimag--as long as it gets a good ten minutes of power, runtime is no concern.

I would take them in whatever configuration you decide to do, but would probably prefer MM+ running at least 800mA and better yet 1000 mA. I have a "couple" of extra Fireflies that are begging for these /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif In fact I sent you an email asking to be put on the list for at least 3 of them /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

MM+ or BB750
whatever is brightest with NiMh and fit into a minimag.

Also consider this my preorder for 2. Thanks!

Whatever would make my CNC-123 as BRIGHT and as WHITE as possible. (If you use a single 123.)

Note the generous heat sinking.

I would buy either a BB750 or MM+.

Waiting instructions on how to order. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinser2.gif

BB750 all the way!
I have noticed that even a BB500 get quite toasty driven with some good 2100 NiMH’s. Instead of the top layer of the sandwich being a PCB - has anyone messed around with making it out of metal? That would in my eyes make these much more tolerant of the added heat load of these 3w'ers.

Whatever works in a Mini-Mag with Alkalines the best. I need two of them to start!
