Check this out, I got bored on nightshift last night and I found a new home for the old emitter from my HDS.

2x2032 in parallel (creative use of aluminum foil), granted, it's not heatsinked so I don't want to run it very long, but it'll sure find a keyhole in the dark.

Nice work. I've always wondered how well a pair of coin cells could drive a Luxeon in a microlight. The question comes up frequently enough that I'll probably be referring people to this thread in the future.

I see you used two 2032 cells instead of the normal two 2016 cells. I assume that was partially because you had a gap between the two halves of the body due to the larger size of the Luxeon compared to the original 5mm Nichia LED. I'd like to see a closeup picture of the spacer between the two halves of the body. How did you make the spacer/filler?

If you can, please post a few more beamshots comparing it to some other keychain lights like an unmodded Photon microlight (or fauxton).

:goodjob:

Thanks, actually I used 2032's because I have a bunch of them right now, I'm not sure how it'd do off of 2016's. I imagine it would be similar with shorter runtime:thinking: . Oh yeah, the spacer...:sssh: there actually isn't one. I just covered the gap with black electrical tape until I have time this weekend to make something, I might do something out of some scrap G10 or carbon fiber I have laying around. Once I get something ironed out I'll post it here. I'll also see if I can get a comparison between this and my wife's Photon, unfortunately I don't have any new 2016's so I don't know how accurate it'll be. Maybe I'll stuff a couple new 2032's in it for the comparison:thinking:. Anyway, I'll see what I can do.

In a light like this, the limiting factor is going to be how much current the battery can deliver. The 2032 cells can probably deliver more current than the 2016 cells can, so it wouldn't surpise me if it is brighter with the 2032 cells.

Do the two 2032 cells deliver enough current to get the Luxeon hot, or does it stay fairly cool due to the limited input current?

I look forward to seeing more about this mod. Somebody needed to do it, just to show everybody what happens.

LOVE this kind of stuff! Excellent mod, WV.

I'm interested in the comparison. Does your wife have the Freedom, Freedom Max, etc.?

Edit: If the Lux beats the snot out of a Max, then I'm definitely doing this. I have a regular Freedom doing EDC duty.

i had a Photon III that was modded with a Lux I by YCLO that was graciously purchased for me by a friendly CPFer (you know who you are :) )

then it stopped working right.....

and now its missing :( ah well...someday i shall find it! or build another...it was such a kickass EDC....
