Luxeon Star Regulated 2D Rayovac

I decided to modify a Rayvac Industrial 2D flashlight, using a 1 watt Luxeon Star, 30mm optics, and a LED Dynamics micropuck. Here's a few pics:

I have done a run time brightness test. Here are some results:

2:05pm - 2,830 lux
5:05pm - 2,270 lux
10:05pm - 1,730 lux
1:05am - 1,655 lux
8:05am - 1,397 lux
1:20pm - 1,209 lux

After nearly 24 hours, it is still over 1,000 lux! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It is extremely bright, and lasts 24 hours at excellent brightness. I think LED Dynamics has an outstanding product. I highly recomend it. It is an excellent blend of brightness/battery life. It also drives the Luxeon Star at a level that a plastic flashlight can be used.

I did a similar thing with a 2D Energizer Industrial. Sorry, no pictures. I took out the switch and replaced it with an L shaped piece of 1/8" thick aluminum. That gave me a place to mount an LS/O. Then I had lots of room for a push button switch, electonics, and a 2AA battery holder. I packed the empty space with a plastic bag.

It makes a good outside walking light.
