Took a couple shots comparing the old style Mac/FM Ellie HID with 10W (3s AW 18650) Solarc and now compared it to the new Mac/FM Ellie-II HID with 14W (4s AW 18650). Both were focussed on far building about 325ft away. Pretty big difference.
Couple other differences to mention. The 14W has the glass envelope removed, & MOP reflector. It is pretty hard for me to reconcile that much of a difference...but it is what it looks like in person. I just didn't expect this much.
I may try removing glass from the 10W, because with its SMO, I'm really seeing the starter wire shadow. I have the beam focussed as sharp of a center beam as I can. You can see the point spot on the stone foundation, just to the right of the wood steps going into the closer carriage house.
I may try swapping the heads just to see variations...and again if I remove the 10W glass envelope.
Does that mean that the 10W is a smooth reflector then? I'm guessing so because of the hot spot.
Yeah, I picked up on the 10W's little collimated spot right away. I think the envelope removal will help a noticable amount by being a little brighter and scattering less light. It should be a cleaner beam when you're done.
I'd like to see the 14W with the smooth reflector.
