Madmax work with single eneloop?

Well after ordering some madmax drivers that I intended to drive with a single eneloop (w/cree Q5) I read that they will not work. At least these three did not (post#14):

Does this have anything to do with the Vf of the led or is there something else I am missing?

I don't think so. Madmax was designed for 2AA cells.

at the lower drive levels, I have used them in 1AA configs with alky and lithium. Not nearly as bright but they do work. Never tried with a nimh tho.

I tried a MadMax Plus to build a UV 1AA torch. It is pretty good with a fresh Eneloop, but after about a whopping one minute, it goes down to about half brightness. I got much better results when I popped in an E2, but I suspect it might still be somewhat underdriving the LED.
