I have purchased the maglite led 4d drop in and plan to put a ssc p4 in it as soon as it gets here from DX.

What I'm wondering is what kind of milliamps does the magled module put out??

Remember you only have about 10 minutes of it before the module steps down to perhaps half brightness. Wrap some aluminum foil around the module then push it into socket for a little better heatsinking.

The MagLED's are different output. The 3 cell MagLED it the "brightest" of them all, so it must put out more current. Maybe 800ma? I wish I knew. The 3 cell magLED is 25% brighter than the 2 cell and 10% brighter than the 4 cell. These numbers come from the measurements and info at flashlightreviews.com. That's why when I modded my MagLED's I used the 3 cell one only.

I don't think that's entirely true. In stock form the 3 cell is the brightest, but modded the 4 is basically the same as the 3 cell.

The number in italics is the mean pixel brightness in the picture.

Why is the tint on your 4d always different from 2d and 3d?

Anyway as tested by flashlightreviews.com, 3d is brightest. But I always has the suspicion that mag intended to make them all the same, and the difference we see is just manufacturing variation.

Well, in stock form, I figure it's Luxeon Lottery at work. In the modded form, I'm not sure. Maybe I screwed up processing the file from the camera, but I don't think so. With the MOP reflector and UCL lens the 3 and 4 cell are closer.

Mag 3D with 3-cell Mag LED drop-in modded to SSC USX0H P4 (KD MOP reflector & UCL Lens): 54.9

The LEDs I used were not all purchased at the same time and may not all be from the same reel. The 2D & 3D are from the same reel of USX0H LEDs.

One more thing. Please keep in mind the number in italics are not absolute because the objects in the scene are not identical for all pictures (due to pictures being taken on different days), and the camera position is not 100% identical (again due to pictures being taken on different days), and the lights may have some positional error (there's no X on the table and ceiling).

I received my SSC P4 from DX today. I swapped it with the luxeon in the mag drop in. I am very pleased with the output. I have noticed that it dims after a few minutes.

I guess this is because of the heatsinking issues of the module itself. I used Thermal Compound under the emitter, and superglue around the perimeter of the emitter after I had already soldered the leads down. I think that this was a decent way to complete the mod.
