Hi,
Would like recommendation on any drop-in solutions for Mag Solitaire AAA which might be available on DX or KD. Thanks in advance :)

yup. but none of them offer free international shipping. i dont want to pay $20 for shipping a tiny LED to my place :shakehead

Have you seen this thread?

There aren't any on DX or KD.

The one in the link listed from LED Replacement (a Tektite LT-3) is about $24 and the one listed from Lighthound is no longer available.

*** After some looking around, I see a hole in the market. Solitaires are pretty worthless as is, the available drop-in is > 4x more expensive than the light, and there are a lot of Solitaires out there - if we were all honest, I bet there aren't too many of us who don't have at least one and probably a few more, gathering dust some place in the house.

i have a light thats similar to a solitaire that i think might take a solitaire drop in... the thing is, like everyone here, im a little disappointed in the prices of the dropins available. if mag ever releases a dropin for it (im rather sure they would make them cost effective, as their previous dropins have been) or if my E01 bites the dust (fat chance) ill probably still look into it. i just cant bring myself to throw out the light, but its useless as-is.

I got something like this, if not the very same thing, from sandwich shoppe a couple of years ago. It cost me $16 including shipping. Comparing it and my E01, they are about the same. I can see no difference in output. The E01 has its advantages, its knurling, better beam and it is smaller. Still, I carry my solitaire. I sputtered the reflector and cut the cam off. Now, the beam, while not great, is still easy to work with and the head screws down all the way. The reason I carry it and not my E01 is because of a very simple and I bet to most, a moot point. It's because I have to unscrew the head of my solitaire to turn it on. While not in use, it is tight and secure. I know, I know, but I just don't like the idea of having the head of my light loosened while in my pocket. Especially so with everything else in it.

It's really not worth upgrading the solitair imho. The solitaire is a bit big to begin with and for the price a drop in will cost you there is so much else you could buy like a fenix e01.

I just bought a Solitaire Saturday -- the red ones (only red) on sale at the tractor supply store for $3.14. It's terrible as a flashlight, but very pretty to look at, and even fun to take apart (after I decided not to just leave it in the original package). The one advantage it has over my other low-level keychain lights is it can focus the beam so it can light up something a few feet away better than the little ROV or Dorcy, but in practice I'd just use another light for that (like my 45 lumen Dorcy AAA). But hey -- it's a piece of art.

The other though I had is put some aluminum foil up against the bulb section, remove the o-rings, and use it to stash my half-smoked cigarette in when I'm out and about (yeah, giving up smoking, again -- but at the price of even roll-your-own I'm not going to waste a half a butt). It makes a nice little storage container. You can put toothpicks or some pills in it.

Best upgrade is to buy a Fenix E01 and take Solitare and "drop-in" the trash!
You gotta love laughing at your own jokes but I totally agree.

After paying over $20 for a LT3, the led started to squeal after a bit of use. The drop-in would often turn on by itself so you really had to twist the head tight. Total waste of money. Thats the best suggestion, "drop-in" the trash.

oh well.. i cant bear to drop it into the trash though. maybe i'll give it to a neighboring kid :)

I put an LED drop-in in one Solitaire and made a pill holder from another Solitaire.

hrmm, the price of this is a lot better, plus i might consider buying one of the AA-2D convertors they sell.

the question is obviously if it will work in the flashlight ive got. it certainly looks like it would.
