I thought I remember people talking about the Maglite LEDs having problems with lack of heatsink. Has anyone actually had a MagLED lose lumen maintenance or die in a short period of time?

I have a 3AA Maglite LED, and so far I don't think I've had any problems yet. Which models are more effected?

The C/D size MagLEDs definitely get dimmer after being on for a few minutes. This dimming is by design; the circuit throttles back the current when the module gets hot. This dimming is reversible and not the same thing as damage from overheating.

That is good then, so it doesn't allow itself to get damage from overheating?

I've heard of this simming before, but how often do you use your light for 15 mins straight. I use mine for dog walking and that sort of stuff, 10 or so min at a time, i never notice a dimming. Use for as long as needed, cool for a few, no noticeable difference in light output.
