I have a maglite 2d I bought about a year ago, on a new battery change the light would stay as bright as a normal 2d mag is up until my last battery change in July. Now imediately after I put a fresh set of batteries in it, it starts getting noticeably dim and after 10 minutes of runtime it's dead. I tried 3 different brands of batteries in it and each time it was dead within 7-10 minutes.

But if it's more expensive to fix it I suppose it would work as a nice hammer.

Never had to use it, but I have heard that Maglite's customer support is surpringly good. Contact them, let them know the situation. You might end up paying for just shipping. Worth a try.

Thanks for the suggestions. Jacob, I would mod it but I'm not exactly the right person for the job, not saying I may do some small stuff though.

Dont maglite has a spare bulb in the tail?
If you cant fix it yourself just mod it and you will have new experience
Stock Maglite are nothing now, they are too dim

Yeah, you learn a lot through modding, 6 months ago I didn't even know how to solder, I learnt how to whilst modding a maglite. Mow I've don't several mods and my soldering is really good. Doing your first mod may seem daunting but when you've finished it you realize that it's actually easy and you want to do more

and it opens up a whole new world of torches. Can't find an aspherical super thrower that's reasonably priced or uses the right battery type? Never mind, just make one

The heatsink is the expensive bit. They don't cost much to make but they sell for quite a lot. If you've got access to a metal lathe it'll only cost a few dollars but to buy them your looking at 15 dollars minimum

I think that your lightbulb is on the way out.

For $25, you can get the Fusion 36 LED from Ebay.

And, don't forget the Teralux TLE-6EXB, usually on sale for <$20.

For <$10, you can get a Dorcy LED replacement PR bulb at Sears.

If your light is doing in your batterys that quick it's possible you may have the wrong bulb or your bulb is shorted. My 3-D is one of my favorate lights and sees regular use. "Almost daily" It's running FM's 1909 driven by 3x IMR 26500s through FM's BiFocal reflector. This is the light I grab when some one is showing off a new LED.
