Hey, I am looking upgrading a batch of old Maglite 3D with the "LED" upgrade rather than buying a new set. the bulb is a CREE XP-G2.
anyone have experience with doing this?

light works just fine except for their horrific and awful ability to give light compared to my TM26 and X21, so to give them an extra inch would be fine. :duh2:

Which one? Malkoff makes upgrades in the 300 lumens and 700 lumens true "out the front" lumens ranges which are by reputation excellent. They are single mode only and run $40 to $80. Terralux makes LED upgrades for older Maglites which vary from only a little brighter than the original incandescent bulb at a claimed 140 Lumens to a 3 LED module which claims three output levels and 1000 Lumens maximum but it is for 4 to 6 cell Maglites only. The 3 LED one is not cheap, running from about $53 on Amazon depending on seller. The lower output Terralux ones are considerably behind the latest brightest Maglite LED models in output.

The upgrades with output greater than the current latest Maglite LED lights with outputs in the 250 Lumens range cost more than the new Maglites in many instances per my Amazon checks.

i got the 140 lumen terralux upgrades for a 3C and a 2AA maglite cheap at lowes and it made a distinctive difference in both cases but if you can't get the upgrades for say under $15 then it might be better to put that money toward a new torch.
