When fitting a Mag with a Badboy the other day I noticed that the ID of various Mini Mag AAs were different. The same batteries moved freely in one unit, moved with some difficulty in another, and downright wouldn't go into one. There appeared to be no corrosion in any of the units. Eeek. What gives?

[ These lights were probably purchased over a large number of years ]

Were they handled under different temperatures? Maybe bit of expansion/contraction made 1 battery fit and another not...

But more likely yes, different inner diameter, later ones probably larger perhaps due to Mag receiving returns of batteries 'stuck' inside.

Dat2zip once told me about the range of minimag dimensions. This is no doubt accurate.

I think that the battery makers have been making cells closer to the max size to improve capacity.

This would make stuck batteies more likly.

Are the older ones the tight ones?

I actually think the older ones are bigger. I have that is about 12 years or so old, and it is quite bigger than the newer ones.
