I love Lumencraft's stuff, but @vestureofblood I would KILL for this EXACT drop-in but a SINGLE MODE like the Magcharger one...

Can we please get a lead on the same exact module for regular PR-based Mags but single mode? Does it exist? PLEASE?

Modders: Is there a jumper or something I can cut or solder to make that a single-mode?

For the most compatible LED drop-ins (though certainly not the brightest out there) I'd stick with the ones Maglite makes for their C and D lights. For 2AA, already mentioned in this thread, Nite-Ize as your least expensive option. For 2AAA, yeah.... You're just better off buying a dedicated 2AAA LED penlight, and using that instead.

I didn’t know that Maglite sold led upgrades for C and D lights. Do you have more information?

That is old news. I had the 2,3,and 4 upgrades when i was in high school. They sold them at Walmart. Don't get excited though it isn't bright and steps down if ran for any period of time.

Well, this is odd and unfortunate. The drop-ins are older ones but completely compatible with Incandescent Maglite models. There were a couple of sellers on eBay offering them for quite a long while. Last time I checked was last week, with both having plenty in stock. But now I can't find either listing. Sorry about that. In that case, your best bet is going to be the LED drop-ins offered by Malkoff.

I used the 3C-cell Maglite upgrade for over a year when I patrolled inside the Standard & Poor's building in Manhattan several years ago. It was definitely bright, and it didn't step down after a short amount of use. Actually didn't step down at all during a full night's use. We're talking patrolling over 20 dark floors. I can tell you this, whoever did the wiring was an idiot. Hit a light-switch, watch as an area across the entire floor lit up, while you were still standing in darkness. Nowadays the output seems pathetic compared to what's available from 3rd parties now. Back then, it was definitely an upgrade.

Malkoff is probably the best but to much many for an old Maglite. Malkoff charge 55usd for just shipping to Europe.

They did, but it was a dim pr drop in, not worth buying today. even if you can find one. way inferior to what lumencraft sells, and i'm not advertising him. just sharing my experience. malkoff used to make great drop ins, but no more are available for a maglite

Dim? Definitely wasn't my experience. Are we talking the same drop-in? Is it possible that Maglite offered two different sets of drop-ins? One for runtime, perhaps a different one for output? There used to be a well-stocked Police supply shop close to the S&P building. If those Maglite drop-ins were dim, I would have bought one of the larger Streamlight LED models. Especially back then when my enthusiast levels were off the charts and I needed the flimsiest of reasons to add more lights to my new flashlight collection.

The ones I had were polished chrome.
Looking back, I can clearly remember starting out at that job with a Brinkmann Maxfire LX model (inca., 2CR123s). But it absolutely ate through batteries at a crazy rate. So, bought a 3C Maglite; then immediately got the company's LED replacement drop-in. Substantially brighter than the stock 3C inca. lamp. Used it for a month. I was so happy with the output that I went out and bought a new grey 3C Maglite, along with another Maglite LED drop-in. Swapped out the inca. lamp for the drop-in on the subway while headed home from work. Couldn't wait.

There must have been another drop-in offered by Maglite at the time. One clearly geared for output. Again, if the replacement LED drop-in had been a dim joke; I would have immediately gone to that Police supply shop and happily spent my money on an LED Streamlight rechargeable model. Most likely a Stinger DS LED. That never happened.... A lot of things happened while I worked there. Looking back, I seriously wish I didn't remember most of it. Now that I really think about it, I had to deal with some truly disgusting, low-life pieces of human trash! One of the better human-beings I dealt with on a regular basis, would get my vote for Most Likely to become a Serial Killer down the road. And honestly, he was still a better human-being than those others. Okay, I'm rambling now. But at the time, Maglite definitely had some sort of drop-in geared for output. I know. I bought a couple of them.

It was bright compared to inc. 3C, but today it is pretty dim. I had several maglites that came with these from the factoy, (otherwise it was ordinary inc maglite), all had this dull body, all used one of the first luxeon led. I ripped one apart, it has a pretty poor heat path. it was not sold for long, few years at best, Are you sure yours was actually made by a maglite co. did it have a maglite logo there, cuz there was dozens of third party drop ins on the market, still are.

The only advantage the maglite has is if you want one made in America instead of a Chinese one it fits the bill. Really though you are better with a ROP incan. LED just means you won't burn through alkalines so fast and it isn't like the new MAG LEDs aren't pure awesomeness.

Seriously I bought a 6D LED some months back and it is probably better than any LED mod you will do and they aren't that expensive new especially when bought with a 20% or greater coupon.

Maglite came out with their drop-ins c. 2006 and discontinued them in c. 2009 - these had thermally regulated luxeon LED's that stepped down to below 50% when they heated up. Newbie did a write up on these back in '06 -

The ML300 and ML50's are a big improvement on the old Mags, especially if you run them on Li-ions.
