Maha C9000 brown spot on left side of display

After having used my new C9000 to break in several sets of batteries and leaving it on for almost a week I noticed that the left side of the display has changed color when the unit is turned off. It seems the Leds have slightly burnt the display at that spot (almost all of the printed menu on the display). Is this normal? It's not visible when the backlight is on but I'm slightly worried that it will become worse over time since this already happened after the first few times I've used it. It's more visible under a light bulb than it is in daylight. I could post a picture if needed.

That's not normal. Does the display feel hot to touch at that spot? Maybe some component is overheating inside. I'd suggest you contact Maha.

OK thanks for the reply. The display doesn't get hot at that side. I think it has more to do with the leds being on for several days in a row.
I've taken a picture of it. Mind you, it's hardly noticeable in daylight, this picture was taken where I'm using the charger; on my desk with a halogen desk light.

It looks like the LCD is damaged, and I would definitely exchange it where you bought it, or contact Maha directly.

Seems like if some one thought it was touch screen. Probably pushed over the LCD.

I would agree with the finger diagnosis. The patch is the right size and shape, and consistent with other damaged LCDs that I have seen. Time for a service call, as this will grow progressively worse until you can not read the display (the liquid crystal is likely leaking between the layers of the LCD).

Hold on guys. I know what a broken LCD looks like and that's absolutely not the case here (It's been sitting on my desk for 2 weeks now and no-one's touched it except me). I'm 100% positive that the Leds are the cause of this. Like I said, it's invisible in daylight and when the leds are on but I found a way to see it in daylight as well. Turn your (unplugged) unit around with the power connector facing you. Then look at the display at an angle of around 30 degrees. I bet a lot of you will see a colored spot on that side of the display now. It's just that my halogen desk light seems to amplify the effect by 50 times or so.

EvilLithiumMan was kind enough to disassemble his new MH-C9000 so he could post some images including this one of the display assembly:

The remainder of his images can be found in this thread.

Perhaps they can help determine what's happening ...

both of mine have thousands of hous of ontime and no discoloration on either.
did have problems with my first 2 which had buggy firmware.
these 2 are fine in that area but i had to take both apart to clean the slot button.they get gunked up easy.wash hands before using this charger.

No it's not polarized. But I've discovered that the desk light shines on the display at the same angle which I was mentioning before.
I would really appreciate if some of you would check this with their unit and tell me if they see any color differences on the left side (see my last post 4 above this one).

I've looked at my unit at all sorts of angles under halogen light and other kinds of light. I'm afraid I don't see any coloration in the display.

OK thanks for taking your time to check guys. I'm gonna call Maha tomorrow and see what they have to say about it.

Hey now that I'm looking at it again it looks like that display is using EL backlight? I can't see how thick the lower white panel is but Maha didn't change from EL to leds for the backlight did they?

It's possible that MahaEnergy could have modified the display assembly, but the only way to find out for sure would be to disassemble your MH-C9000.

If you're up the the task, the phillips screws under under the little rubber feet, and they're just stuck on with a sticky adhesive.

It seems like it almost has to a discolouration of the backlight or the insert sandwiched between the two layers of smoked-glass.

My first thought was "That's not the LEDs." My second thought, like Citivolus, was that it was polarised light illuminating stress patterns (or damage). It looks like quite a nice rainbow effect, so I would say it's not a simple discolouring of something.
