I will exclude the MDC 1xAA and 2xAA configuration from the lineup, instead talk about the strange AA combinations that are possible.

First and the most obvious one is the MD3 with 2xAA cells. I first tried it with an old M60LL way back when, it obviously wasn't as bright as the light on 3x123 or 2x18500 but the runtime was significantly improved.

The next combination was an older 3xAA FiveMega body. I got nice runtimes with M61LLL 219B.

The next significant configuration what one might call MD6. It's a MD4 with a bolted-on 1x18650 extension, making it a 3x18650 device. I run my HD Super in that mode. It extends the runtime but most interestingly it fits 4xAA nicely and does light up on high and low mode. I realize 4xAA resulting in 5V in Eneloops or more with Alkalines or so don't generate the full lumens but yeah, it's possible to run Super on AAs.

Take it a step further and bolt a 1x18500 extension to the above and you add 2 cells, meaning it becomes a 6xAA light. Or add a 3x18650 and you add another 4 cells, (8 total) and picture that giant.

I am pretty happy running my M61 / MD3 on low on 2xAA as it seems to generate around 1-2 lumens for the "moonlight mode" and sampling the voltage after a few days of use, the cells are still 1.5V, so M61 + 2AA seems like the best battery vampire possible. I needed a moonlight mode that used AA and it's all that. But unlike a dedicated AA light, with MD3 you can instantly switch to 123s or 18500s or whatnot.

Hmmm. Love my C3HA with M31W and 2xAA. I've tried my M61N in the MD3 with 2xAA and was not overly happy with the results. I've heard (and I believe I tried a while ago) the M91B with 2xAA.

The whole point is to adjust your expectations. Of course A M61 anything on 2xAA will be dim as h3ll. That's the point. Battery variety and longer runtime. If you need lumens you can switch to real batteries in a nanosecond.
