Re: Malkoff AAA Flashlight?

Surely, if what is wanted is an ultra-rugged AAA keychain light, the McGizmo Sapphire Hi-CRI is what you need? US-made, rugged and reliable. Malkoff doesn't do titanium, so it would be necessary to make it much thicker out of aluminium to achieve the same resilience, thus compromising the compactness that makes AAA so appealing in the first place.

A fine addition to any key chain, to be sure. I think I understand the brand's following, but to my knowledge McGizmo does not use fully potted electronics, a primary selling feature of Malkoff Devices. For most Malkoff customers, resilience is less about the appearance of the exterior over time, and more about the longevity of the electronic components.

To your point, others have speculated that a Malkoff AAA light would be too large. For me a "smallish" Malkoff AAA would be acceptable, even if it were slightly larger than some others.

Re: Malkoff AAA Flashlight?

I understand your point, but in realty, no-one is going to weapon-mount an AAA light, so recoil damage is unlikely. Also, the terminal velocity of one falling isn't that high due to its lack of mass, so even dropping onto concrete from ridiculous height, it's unlikely to damage un-potted electronics.

I'm sure a Malkoff AAA would be a welcome addition to many forum members, I just cannot see it happening anytime soon. Has anyone fielded the idea to Gene?

Small items don't have the same impact forces in a fall, but I have indeed noted improved durability from potted vs unpotted flashlights of this size.

Though he does not post too often, Mr. Malkoff is on CPF regularly, and I would think it likely he has seen this long-standing thread by now ... 😗

Re: Malkoff AAA Flashlight?

yeah I don't carry a light unless its potted whether aaa or whatever. Its sucks cause it basically limits you to either a fenix e01 or a Peak and I do not like the Peak QTC and don't want to deal with a custom order. so I relegate myself to the Fenix E01

I don't think we will ever see a Malkoff aaa for the reasons mentioned above but it sure would be cool and I would pay a premium for it

Malkoff AAA Flashlight?

Please understand this thread is about if you want aaa malkoff or not and that's it!

Please just vote if want one and if you don't want please just leave this thread alone!
Am trying to collect as much votes as possible and send it again to Gene to make it happen.

Just keep it simple!

Re: Malkoff AAA Flashlight?

Nichia- It's difficult to vote with no poll in your original post. Perhaps you could add one? 🙂

Re: Malkoff AAA Flashlight?

Voted yes! I'll commit to the purchase, regardless of the final features. Dyed in the wool Malkoff junkie that i am.

But in order for Gene to make a sound business decision to commit, the discussion has to include doubts. I remember the petrolhead community enthusiastically begging Toyota for a simple, lightweight, naturally aspirated coupe. Toyota delivered the GT86 exactly as the people had asked but it tanked in the sales. Despite all the enthusiasm, the petrolheads continued to buy their German cars with their soft-touch plastics, class-leading residuals and falsified low emissions and left Toyota to foot the bill. I think Gene deserves better than that.

Re: Malkoff AAA Flashlight?

I think that's called vote rigging! :naughty:
Another poll option would have been to just have two choices; 'yes' and 'yes w/ qualifiers'. 😉
(Do the 'no' people merely scroll on by the thread title ... ? :thinking🙂

Voted. Still :candle: for a forward clicky switch ...

Well said, sir. Fully agreed.

Re: Malkoff AAA Flashlight?

The GT86 was basically a $28,000 aenemic, underpowered Suburu that was manufactured by Suburu with a few Toyota logos on it.

So yeah if Gene took a Maglite Solitaire and anodized it to look like a Malkoff....
But we know that won't happen.

On #9 are you saying that it must be a thrower?, Because your #1 priority is small size. A tail switch is also going to make it a bigger flashlight. When I carried a Lumintop Tool clipped in a front jeans pocket, it activated a couple times while squatting. It been sitting in its box for years, especially since we have other reliable compact flashlights. Maybe Mr. Malkoff can come up with something really special. He has been exploring a programmable flashlight after all...

How about a voltage indicator and a quick simple way to charge the battery without removing it every time?

Who wants to see keychain AAA flashlight from Malkoff beside me? Maybe with Nichia and even Natural white cree led are welcome.
I really like the idea of bomb proof keychain light from Malkoff and maybe this time no PWM ..
So what you think?

what I want see in this light is:-

1. Small size (keychain size like 4sevens preon, lumintop tool, surefire titan etc...).

2. Tail switch (NO Twisty) PLEASE.

3. NO PWM.

4. Nichia 219b (sw45k R9080) HI CRI

5. Tail Stand.

6. Small Version of the MDC Clip (its Perfect).

7. Support Both Eneloop & Li-ion 10444.

8. 100 Lumens or more on normal AAA and 250 lumens or more on 10444.

9. Thrower (is a mast feature)

10. ????
