Malkoff M60LL and 2 18650 batteries

Yes I use it when a long run is a must and battery changes are not part of the plan.
It is a little long for some but I have no trouble with it. I think that complaint is from people who are trying to carry it more than using it.
Outside on the trail where there is no light pollution it is very bright.
Take it camping with 2 extra 18650's and see if you ever need to swap them out during your stay.
A Malkoff is super easy to flood out by putting LDF between the optic and the glass lens.
:)
I have a defender bezel, a 2X18650 Leef tube, and the leef clicky tail with the 3 protrusions. Every Malkoff but the M30 has found it's way in and out of this host, for me it just depends on what brightness level I need.

I have done it with a 2X18500 Leefbody and M60LL (which i sold later). Even with the straight 2X18500 setup there was a massive runtime to the point where i ended up selling the M60LL before i ever had to charge up the 18500's.

Pros: never once had to charge the batteries.
If you need more power, carry the M60 with you as well and just swap

Cons: normally when i needed the M60LL instead of M60 or M60L it was for close up and/or detailed work, or use in close quarters like a tent etc... and the unit was just a bit too big for general use. I can imagine that the 18650 X2 setup would have drove me nuts size wise for what i was doing.

I have a 2x18650 setup but with the M60L (6P w/Fivemega long body).

While brighter than the M60LL, the M60L still gets crazy long runtime, and I also have another of the same but with the M60.

Either way, 2x18650's is a great way to go with any of the Malkoffs to get runtimes you could never get with CR123's.

2x 18650s I imagine will run at least 12 hours regulated. You probably be able to pull off a 14 hour day with with light constantly on, but do you need to?

If your not using the light for hours on end regularly, I think an M60L would do just fine. And if thats too bright compared to the LL, get a shorter battery tube and use 18500s or smaller.

Thanks for the replies from everyone. On another note, I was thinking about having my 6P with two one cell extenders bored out to accept the 18650s. Would it be better to find one that is specifically for this or is boring it out acceptable?

Valid point. It's just that I already have the LL and am looking for a light that I could use in an emergency that has a LONG runtime and decent output. This would be its sole purpose. I've got other lights (too many, really :)) that I use regularly.

Do you already have the extenders, and/or can you get the boring done cheap? If not, a fivemega body may be cheaper. (Looks like Lighthound is still out of the Leefs, unless you want to spring for an E2C adapter as well.)

And if you're looking for ultimate runtime, check out the Big Leef or TnC C-Flex systems and run your M60LL on two AW "C" cells. Both systems are expensive, but runtime should be ~50% greater than two 18650's.

Yeah, I already have the extenders and Wayne from Elektrolumens can bore it out for me for a pretty decent price.

The AW C cell systems are intriguing but I'm trying hard (and not doing a very good job of it) to stay with as few different battery systems as possible. I've got a few lights that run the 18650 already so I'd like to stick with it on this one.

Thanks for the tips! :)

I applaud you restraint. If I could start over again...

Glad I just stumbled on this thread - I'm finally thinking of getting into 18650s for the runtime and now that AW has the safe IMR chemistry (LiIons still scare me and I won't use them).

Does anybody know where to pick up a ONE 18650 body to run an M60 - didn't see em on lighthound? Is using ONE 18650 even worth it? Currently I am running Lifep04 RCR123s in my malkoffs and now the IMR RCR123s are en route for that task.

Also, does anyone have a pic of the TWO 18650 leef body with a C head on it? It probably looks a bit silly (especially if I throw an sw01 fatty on the end) but still just curious - I imagine an M head looks MUCH better for that body but that means buying even more parts...

Maybe I should just bite the bullet for the TWO 18650 body as its just a matter of time until Surefire puts out that KL6 LED...

I'm rambling.

Thanks guys!

OK the M60 on 1 18650 isn't really worth it to me.
That's why I love the M30.

I will post a pic of the 2 18650 body C head right away for you. It's not that big really, I came from a 3 cell Mag background so I think it's still small.

Sarge - once again, you are the man!

Would you mind placing a C2 in the pic as well for scale?

I owe you!

I will give you a couple of Leef tube size references!!

1X18650 Leef and 2X18650 Leef tubes. Look at the HA wear on that tailcap, it used to all be the same darkness as the bezel! There are no chips just an even wear from lots of use. Which do I use alot? :)

Not shown but also wonderful:

Sarge, thank you, thank you, thank you!

The pictures are wonderful and give me a perfect idea of the size. Its a bit long for my taste but I don't plan to carry it in my pocket :) The C head also looks pretty good - not awkward at all. By the way, your survivors are very very nice!

That wear is pretty cool - how many hours do you think you have on that setup!?!

Well, you have sold me and I'm going to order the 2x tube tonight.

I also really like that single body - must be awesome running the M30 - how much time do you get?

You are welcome! I like giving pic references.
As far as wearing on the Leef, oh geez I couldn't even come close!
You are going to enjoy the huge jump in runtime, think of the M60WLL in this thing!!!!!
The single body gives me +/- 2 hours and is one of the best purchases of the year. Looks just like a HA 6P!

There is someone in CPF BST that will bore out a 6P for about $20. He was buying and selling them bored, but I think he's stopped doing that.

Gimme a sec and I'll be back with a link.

*edit* LINK

He says he'll have some bored bodies in a day or two. :)

Divine - thank you!! That is perfect and just let Dennis know that I want a bored C2 :D

Sarge - thanks again. I'm actually a little regretful about buying everything that I have thus far. It seems like the combination of a M60W, M60LW, M30W, 18650s, a bored c2 and a 2x 18650 leef body are my dream lights.

Last Q, I promise! Any idea of the run-times:

M60W with ONE 18650?
M60W with TWO 18650s
M60WL with ONE 18650?
M60WL with TWO 18650s?

Thanks guys for indulging me - really appreciate your time and responses. I feel like a kid in a candy store now that i've discovered 18650s :shakehead
