For what it's worth, my experience has been similar to WadeF's. I've never had any trouble getting an M60 once the email arrives, and I've never seen a batch of M60s sell out in less than 45 minutes. Compare this to how fast batches of Atwood Tools sell out, for example, and you'll see that life isn't so bad. I think Gene is doing what he can.

I've bought two M60s so far (never more than one at a time), and each time I've tested mine out, admired it, and then sold it on BST at a discount to someone who will use it more than I did (most recently two nights ago). I currently don't have any M60s, i.e. they're not something I hoard or collect.

Hang in there!

p.s. One big reason I haven't kept an M60 for good is that my WE drop-in with low mode has proven more useful around the house. While the Malkoff is undoubtedly superior in terms of build, etc., it isn't "better" as far as I'm concerned from a non-LEO perspective. Now if Gene were to make a high-low 2-mode drop-in, all bets would be off...

Again, I wasn't trying to offend anyone. I wouldn't know who Gene Malkoff is either, if not for the people on the board. I'm simply trying to make a point, that when you work, have absolutely no access to the internet at work, and have 3 little ones to care for, getting an M60 is like hitting the lotto.

Once, I happened to be lucky enough to be sitting here, when I got the email from Gene. In the 30 seconds it to to click the link, hit the button, and go to checkout, I got the sold out message. They don't last 10 minutes on B/S/T either.

As others have said on this thread, a VERY reasonable alternative to the Malkoff drop in is the BOG Super Premium Q5. If Malkoff is a 10.0, it is a 9.9 with the only deduction being for build quality, IMO. If you need the light for your work, I would recommend that you go ahead and buy the BOG. You won't be disappointed nor will you be 'under armed'.

Gene's decision to take orders as he does, while it can be frustrating at times, is his decision and his alone. He is really a great guy and his products are first rate as is his customer service.

I own both products and would feel properly equipped with either one.

Now all my great advice is worth what you paid for it. NOTHING!!!:grin2:

Nobody seems to give any love to the single-mode Dereelight assemblies, of which I rate a 10.5 based on total ceiling bounce output and overall throw.

Sorry, I don't have any of those Dereelights. My experience has only been with the Malkoff, BOG, and Wolfeyes drop-ins. I'm sure there are many many alternatives and I thank you for offering insight on another one!

Off topic a bit here but what is the difference between an optic and a reflector? I can't seem to find the answer in the forums, Thanks.

An optic would be a lens that goes infront of the LED to focus the light into a beam. The type of beam depends on the type of optic used.

A reflector goes around the LED and focuses the light by reflecting it, like you would see in a Maglight.

So an optic is a reflector with a lens for focusing, kind of like a combo? Or no reflector, the lens does it all?

The optic I use in the M60 actually fits down on top of and around the LED. It's meant to capture the maximum amount of light possible.

I had one in my cart and made the stupid mistake of calculating postage and going back for the retaining ring. Then, just as I clicked checkout, :poof:it changed to out of stock. I'm starting to think I'm not going to have much of a chance to get one of these any time soon. At least now I have everything added to my cart and ready to go as soon as more are available.

Now I just need to find out a way to get a text message as soon as I get the e-mail from Gene.
