I'm looking to get the Malkoff M60W MC-E drop-in. I see on his site that he sells the Valiant VME head that fits on the SureFire "E" series lights.

Do you think the MC-E would be a good combo with the E2DL body? Would I have to worry about heat or anything with this setup? Thanks!

*UPDATE*

Here are the beamshots. The distances are roughly accurate from my position on google maps. The MCE really shines when you get farther away from something.

yes, it will work i spose... in theory, do you already have the E2DL? I wouldn't purchase this light for that cause, but if you already have it and you want the option of throw and flood, it might not be a bad combo i guess...kind of a weird way of going about it..., for the $30 of the non-matching head you could probably just buy a solarforce host and just drop the M60 in there and have both options readily available

Re: Malkoff M60W MC-E in SF E2DL?

I'm not sure if there are any solarforce host that matches the e2dl body😕

Re: Malkoff M60W MC-E in SF E2DL?

thanks for the link search, your're right, it does look very good (not that i ever doubted, being malkoff and all)

Re: Malkoff M60W MC-E in SF E2DL?

you also have the option to use a vital gear E2C adapter, use it with your E2DL and a 6P head; it will look something like this (sans the tailcap of course):

http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=243783

advantages:

6P hex head is anti roll
6P head has many bezels in the market for it
6P head has a glass window that allows the use of other drop-ins safely (nailbender comes to mind)
6P head has space for a GITD o-ring behind the window 😀

subjectives: i like how it looks

on the con side:

1 more part on the assembly, in that regard less parts is less reasons to fail, and more watertight i guess, however the adapter seems to seal everything very well (has oring for the head part, and the body o-ring seals the other side of the adapter)

Someone pointed that the vme head would be shorter but, thinking about it, it may not be by much since the malkoff drop-in has to make contact with the lip of the body, so the only lenght difference would be on the bezel side, and thats not much difference. would be nice if someone with both option has a pic to show.

I plan on doing this exact thing in the future.

E2DL with VME head and M60W MC-E

😀

I say go for it!

Awesome! I can't wait. I will definitely look at the vital gear adapter also. I would like to get a crenulated bezel to keep it a "defender" light, so that looks like a good option.
:twothumbs

Well I got the email from Malkoff this morning that the MC-E was back in stock, so I should have one next week! I ordered the Valiant head with it.

I will post back here after I receive it to let you know how it is! I'm expecting great things as it's from Malkoff.

I love my VME head with M60 and M60F! Fit and finish is flawless. I am running mine on either a E2e, or Vital Gear FB2 body.

Re: Malkoff M60W MC-E in SF E2DL?

You are going to love the M60W MC-E. I have mine running in a Malkoff MD2 camo host on IMR16340s. I haven't run it straight down till the batteries died but after 5 minutes straight it's just gotten warm. I got the Hi/Lo ring with it and it totally rocks.

Except for play time I haven't kill a full set of IMRs using it for real yet in bursts.

Don't try to use even AW RCR123s with this lamp - get the IMRs. Even AW RCR123s will go into protection after running for a while - to much amp draw for the cells.

How much amp draw? Shouldn't be more than an amp, should it? How long did AW's protected cells run before they went into protection?

I had posted when I first got over in this thread:

http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=235426

Loaded voltage/amps on IMRs:

This light draws some serious power. Regulated power appears to be 11.4 watts with two measurements of loaded voltage and current of [email protected] and [email protected]. Regulation is very clean. Light gets warm quick, but I don't think the IMRs would last that long anyway. I'll be using it around the house so runtime is not biggie and I've got a few sets of the IMRs.

An older thread I found a few days back showed that over 1C and especially over 1.5C the AW RCR123s drop to about ~285mAh cells while even above 2C discharge the IMRs hold the voltage better and don't lose their rated capacity.

What I am saying is that and IMR rated @550mAh will last about 20 minutes with a 1.5A draw. The RCRs will drop to a rating closer to 250-300mAh and only last about 10 minutes. Then they will recover their voltage and after sitting can probably be run again for a while.

You'll get more runtime if done in spurts than if you do it straight.

In a 2xCR123 host this is more of a show light than a practical EDC. But what a show light it is!!! :hitit:

Re: Malkoff M60W MC-E in SF E2DL?

Thanks, I hadn't realized the initial draw was so high. If I ever get around to a M60W MC-E, I'll feed it with 2x18500 like I'd always planned.
Having a bunch of E series stuff, and a couple of the VME bezels...well, this thread intrigued me a little.

Re: Malkoff M60W MC-E in SF E2DL?

I have a VME head, but with a M30F drop-in because I had intended to originally use the head on a one cell body (E1L). I ended up putting the VME head on a one cell McClickie Pak powering it with a RCR123 and I absolutely love it. Phenominal flood output on the great McGizmo host is hard to beat.

I have a M60W MC-E on a Surefire 9P host, but IMHO, the M30F is a lot better bang for the buck considering how powerful (235 lumens) it is running on 1 cell. I might pick up the warm version of the M30F at some point even though the output (170 lumens) won't be as high.

In summary, I was pleasantly surprised (actually thrilled) with the output and the clean flood beam of the M30F, while I was slightly disappointed with the output of the M60W MC-E (I still recommend this drop-in), especially since I'm powering the latter with 9 volts and the former with only 3.6 volts. Even though I was slightly disappointed with the M60W MC-E, it still produces a great wall of light in a beautiful warm tint. Plus, I should get over an hour runtime using 3 cells.

Well I received the M60W MCE today. Here are some pictures of it on the E2DL. It really does light up a room, it's amazing. I had it on for a few minutes and it was getting warm! I will get a lot of use out of it. I'm extremely happy.
