Malkoff M91

I love my M91AW, XM-L2 it's warm but I purchased it for that reason.

Love it!

Just a :bumpit: for my very very favorite Malkoff product of all time. :D

(Also, 'yours truly' had some small role in its naming, suggesting to Gene the 'M91' moniker after hearing he was thinking of naming it in the M61 family.)

----------

One of my two favorite dropins is my treasured M91N @ 5000K; it's not the brightest kid on the block anymore, but still efficiently provides ample illumination - including the wide flood that I prefer.
Long ago (in this thread, probably), someone likened it to 'turning on a lightbulb' in a darkened room.

This particular dropin hasn't seen much use by me recently, as it requires 2xLiIon or 3xCR123 at a minimum (therefore residing in the larger SF P60 bodies) - but I would posit that it is the best dropin of all time when using 3xCR123 primaries due to its combination of output and efficiency.
When my non-flashaholic friends have me set them up with a 'tactical' light but want to avoid rechargeable cells, the M91A (in a 3xCR123 9P) is what I put together for them.

----------

So, after a recent LEGO session, my bedside 'bump-in-the-night' light is now an 18mm-bored SureFire 6Z, M91N, and 2xIMR18350's.

Calculated runtime is in the 40 minute range, more than sufficient for any expected usage - not bad for a compact configuration that eschews the popular 18650 cell.
And I'm enjoying it all over again - 8+ years after the original product release. :)

So, 8+ years ago;

[...] 2xIMR16340's, or, better yet, 2x AW IMR 18350's in a bored two-cell SF would be a good match for this module IMO.

and in the "The more things change, the more they stay the same" department; my post earlier today:

My M91B Resides in a 3 cell elzetta. With a crenellated head and hi/lo tail. Can’t really think of a tougher bump in the night light.well maybe my Malkoff MD4? But honestly think there both pretty much bomb proof.

What I would love to see is gene to come out with a M91-3 mode! Now THAT would be awesome super long runtime on low medium with that level of output would be very useable something around 500 and 1000 for burst mode when needed.

Been looking for a good reason to use a coupon code Cathy sent me. Ordered a warm M91 to go in a 2x18650 Leef body to replace a cheap Vinh drop in. Thanks for the push!

Think you will like it. I love mine. It’s a wall of light. When I use it for walking in the woods or on our pretty dark road at night there’s not much that can hide from this light.the light it gives off on the side is very comforting “Peripheral” that’s the word I was looking for 😂😂😂😂😂🤔. It’s got a lot of that😁

Nice, I owned a cool tinted XML version back in the day, nice & floody. This warm one will be nice.

I have the standard M91B but I keep thinking I need the warm version as well. I love my M61W.

I've had my eye on the M91BW for a while now ant it's probably time to pull the trigger. I have an M361 at 3000K and really like the tint. The M91 would probably run in an MD3 with a Hi/Lo ring.

Hi there TG; sorry but zero interest in a 3-mode M91 over here - one of the best things about the M91 is that simple-as-a-hammer single mode.
For 3-mode applications, the (considerably more expensive) OR triple is at the very pinnacle IMO.

But if Gene ever released a higher-output M91'C' (w/ updated emitter of course), I would be sorely temped - it really piqued my interest to read incidental reports of some M91B's estimated ~5000K color temp ...
Probably wishful thinking on my end; at any rate, am in no rush here. :)

Kestrel absolutely agree with you on this subject. Only reason a 3 mode would interest me is runtime. IF there were a 450-500 lumens medium. I think it would make it even more useful.

I would buy a 5000K M91 in heartbeat. A 3 Mode M91 does not interest me.

I run all my M91s in MD3s with a high/low ring.

Work fantastic!

Either on 3xCR123s, or 2x18500s.
