Malkoff M91

It's good to see this thread active.

I really like my old 3700 K M91AW. I use it almost exclusively with an MD3, driven by AW 18500s. Of course it's got a high/low ring.

I run one in my MD4 sometimes with a couple of 18650/3500mh.and hi/lo ring. I have always wondered what the runtime on low would be. Think I’ll try it over the weekend.

I have moved 20 posts from this M91 thread into a currently-running Wildcat thread, as the content ended up being more appropriate to that thread. Feel free to continue Malkoff M91 dropin discussion here. :)

Thank you & best regards,

Another idea how to use M91...McE2S dual stage Z41.
I think i have one around

Even though the current interest would of course be more along the lines of the more modern Malkoff high/low ring, I do happen to have a McE2S Z41 tailcap, customized with a 250 ohm (IIRC) resistor. It did approx. 5-10 lumens with the old M60 (depending on cell config / voltage); I could try it out with this older M91 of mine (w/ 2x LiIon) and report back ...

Ok, I dusted off my McC2S Z41 tailcap (120 or 250 ohm resistor, I can't recall - but I can take a reading).
Judging by the ~15lm setting on my Boss, I'd say this M91N is 30-40 lumens on 'low'.
Frankly I'm a little suprised, as my McC2S was configured to obtain a low of only 5-10 lumens with an M60.

And also wanted to post a pic of the host; a perfectly-simple single-mode flooder for bedstand duty.

Love them Z2’s. I keep a beater with an M61 in my van. And a minty one with a M361 W in the house.

No problem, happy to help; curious as to your concern though, the M91 not running well w/ the resistor or ??
With Gene's outstanding product development, I'd assume there was full compatibility with the high-low ring, etc.

And yes TG, the Z's are the very best light bodies for usage. Ever. :)
(Edit: I happen to have a G2Z in my car, and a Z3 & G3Z in my van; All with - huh - Malkoff modules, imagine that lol.)

I want to use M91 in C3 with 3xC123’s and Z41 with McE2S.
Not a problem at using resistor caise hi/lo ring is nothing else but the resistor...
This way i can have that ability in any other SF light.

That's cool & makes sense; would be a nearly-perfect all-purpose configuration IMO.
At some point, I will most certainly be transferring my M91 into a SF C3 (also with 3xCR123) for a backup SHTF light.

For my uses, I prefer the Malkoff dropins because of their /single-mode simplicity/ - there is simply no better dropin for that.
For multiple modes, I instead prefer the Oveready dropins - short version, I guess I want both. ;)

Warm/Neutral M91. So, I missed out on the M91BW, but Gene will have more soon. Just wondering if there is interest for a neutral M91B, something around 4000K. If there is enough interest, I would start a group buy thread and maybe we can have Gene do a special run.
