Malkoff MD4 Wildcat

Candle Power Flashlight Forum

Help Support CPF:

Whilst I could not order a MD4 I have ordered a MD4 body and tail cap, along with a MD2 to provide a new host for my warm white MC-E. Hopefully I will get on with the Malkoff clicky tail cap as currently I am using a bored out 9P with a Z59.

Another great video and quite the collection you have there. Again at some point either by video or pics can you show the Wildcat with the smaller body and 2 CR123s I really want to see this option looks wise and the amount of light it throws out. Thanks and keep up the good work.

This was not my full collection of flashlights which would not fit on that small table and would have just gotten in the way. I was having problems as it was with what was there.

I am going to do a video showing the interchangeability of the MD2 and 4 heads just to make bigchelis drool some more but again, it all takes time.

I just did some compatability testing of the MD4 host to other switches. I have the Solarforce strobe tailcap and it worked well with that and now I have a strobe mode Wildcat. Tailcap fit well. The G&P Tailcap which provides strobe also worked well. So now with either of these 2 tailcaps you have 4 modes. Hi/low. Hi strobe/low strobe. May see some slight flickering in non strobe mode. I was using 2X18650 batteries.

The plain older Solarforce reverse clicky fits well/works well. The Solarforce forward clicky actually did not fit. It was going on and getting too tight too soon so I would not force it. The Solarforce pressure switch which I really wanted to use also was getting too tight too soon. These switches fit on my Surefires and various Solarforce units so I was surprised that some worked and some did not.

The Surefire C2 and 6P tailcaps fit like a charm on the MD4. I am sure there are others but that is all I have.

So you can have strobe with Solarforce or G&P tailcaps

You can have reverse clicky Solarforce or forward momentary and twist to lock on Surefire Tailcaps fit on this unit to provide extra versatility. Sweeeeeet.

Good to know. Did one of the strobe tail caps work better / fit better than the other? If you had to pick one.

That brings up a good point, you should get a group picture of all your lights and post it for us  Im pretty proud of my somewhat small but slowly growing collection. Dont have any big guns yet =( My EDC-P7 should eventually be here and I plan on getting an XTAR Howitzer 1700lm and the new 4sevens MC-E light and of course I'll need a MD4 whenever theyre made available

The solarforce tailcap does not have the ridges along the outer circumference so it will slide into a 1 inch holster or mount better, but as far as working they are the same. I am sure they use the same electronic piece inside the tailcap.

Also you guys should know that Gene is coming out and just started to advertise the MD3 which is a 3 CR123 cell or 2X18500. It will be a great size, has the external tailcap like the MD4, and the Wildcat head or the MD2 head will screw right on. I didn't want to say anything until he put it on the website. Its up but none are in stock just yet. This will make for a very nice size flashlight for either the Wildcats or the MC-E's. Once he can get more of the MD2 style heads made and can sell the individually, it will be a real nice LEGO system.

This is a video showing how to put together the head of an MD-2 with the switch ring and then converting the Switching the MD-4's Wildcat head to the MD-2 and vice versa. There is also an MD-3 body coming out. All very nice.

Just noticed that the product page for the MD4 wildcat is now saying they will be in stock the second week of September.

This video shows how the G&P Strobe and the Solarforce Strobe Tailcaps go onto the Malkoff Devices MD-4 Flashlight and turn it into a 4 mode flashlight.
Again, very informative videos thanks. One note though, at the end of this video you mentioned that the MD2 takes 2 RCR rechargeables. I'm pretty sure reading everywhere here that RCRs will fry an M60.

How do you like the 2 stage head twisting? Can the heads get too lose on the low stage or the threading is stiff enough that it won't loosen easily?

I don't know where you read that!? One of the most popular combos for the M60 is 2 x RCR123's. The M60 can take up to 9.00 volts so 2 x RCR's or 3 x CR123's are just fine.

James....

The 2 stage twist head works fine, no problems with it. Been playing with it a lot. The M60 as already noted takes up to 9V not 6V. Two RCR123s work great. I have published numerous threads where I run them on 2X17500s in a Solarforce host with 1 extension for well over a year now. Never had a problem. You must have some other light confused. The Malkoff M60 takes up to 9V.

Finally, the long awaited outdoor beamshot video of the MD 4 Wildkitty versus the Solarforce L900M, The new Nailbender MC-E in a 2C Maglite (using 2 Lithium Ion C cells) and the new Moddoo R2 Triple in a P60 size head off of 2X18650's.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-iovLqE3XtE

There are other videos under the MrGman9999 name on youtube of various flashlight comparisons.

I think the MD4 Wildcat has the most useful combinaton of total lumens, beam pattern, for its power and size, I like the new Nailbender simply because of the 2C Maglite size and mid body button configuration for a good beam of light, almost no detectable donut hole, The Solarforce L900M is still a good overall light too bad you can't buy them and I am giving mine away to a person who doesn't even know it yet.

The targets on the fence are about 35 yards away from the camera this time. The new moddoo triple has the "narrow" lense set but still has a wide overall beam pattern. Good overall light but I would classify this as a medium flooder more than anything else. Enjoy.

This will be it for a while. G.

Great video Mr G  Martin Scorsazy look out

SO GLAD I bought a Wildcat it's the best / brightest light I have seen. Whenever I turn it on, anyone around is asking what the hell is that? If you are thinking about getting, you should. If the price is holding you back sell some lights in the MP. You won’t need them once you get it.
