Okay, these pics are correct. No possible inversion. In real life SST-20 looks whiter for sure, not pinkish like the pic, and the M61N doesn't really look warmer, it looks very similar to the SST-20 4000K except just add magenta. I'm not sure what tint I like best.

The E1HT and E2S are probably the most impressive of the E heads, but this one is prob my favorite: SST20 LMH

SST4000k on left, 4000k XP-L on right. That’s how it looks in person too.
Is that a white wall? Mine obviously look similar to yours on an off colored wall, but my 3rd picture on the white ceiling looks much less different.

It's a very light colored gray. In some light the wall is a light blue...yes indeed. One of those funny ways paint works in different lights.

I might sell the XPL head. It should sell as a stand alone head b\c the only way to get it is by buying the complete light.
It does have nice mode spacing though... 20/100/450 is very nice.

I haven't tested runtime, but you can use a 3v rechargeable or 3v primary and get a lower lumen for each mode.
@thermal guy might have tested it already. For example, the E2 head with a 3v battery is a great EDC lumen output. at 3v it's running on direct drive and at some point the LED won't turn on...I need to test it and see if it's a real EDC solution. The tint will change to a warmer tint, too.

So the CR123 body is perfect for when I’m sitting. I still prefer the 14500 form factor overall, but Malkoff’s E-heads are cute-chunky and the CR123 makes it feel slimmer. Not sure what the runtime would be on a 700mah since it’ll run direct drive until the LED goes dark.

Malkoff’s current bin for SST20 4000K are very very good.

Ipicked up a used Torchlab Ehead. V5.1 8 mode. I put it on a Malkoff CR123 with an efest high drain battery.
Here are my lumen settings (same as factory): Battery drain to see the triple lumens vs single LED drain...There are those that say 3 LEDs are more efficient than 1 LED because the triple uses less mAh to achieve the same lumen output. Maybe so?

Below shows just how tiny this pocket rocket is. I have no doubt the overbuilt Malkoff will survive a fall from a helicopter...but 1 day out of the decade I don't need that extreme durability.
Left to right: Malkoff E-head, Torchlab Ehead, Malkoff VME head

This is what I carry most days. I prefer the lumens factory body and tailcap over the malkoff cr123 body because there is more space inside to allow for the extra lengh of the keepover rechargeable 3v batteries I use. And you can lock the light out with a slight twist of the tailcap.

The KP Rechargeable 3v fit in my Malkoff CR123. There’s no harm in depressing those springs...they are only there to move current.

It all depends on the characteristics of the lumens / watts of a particular diode. Usually, the more lumens a diode puts out, the less efficient it is, so many diodes in parallel should give more lumens than 1 when stuffed with the same number of watts.

I found a graph for XPG3, at 3 amps it is about 140 lm / w, at 1 ampere it is about 170 lm / w, total 420 lm versus 520 lm, about 20% difference. In general, this is very useful for flashlights-flooders, where there are a lot of parallel diodes.

@desert.snake - thank you for posting that. So those diodes in particular…the lumens go down as the watts for up?
I’m just starting to toy with the 6V and 12V LEDs.

I cobbled this together the other day. I was after a 2x18650 host, preferably something from Oveready but couldn’t quite get what I was after currently.
So I thought I’d try and make this happen after reading a couple of posts. Had to order a 22.3 head as I only had the old type with a small window and didn’t want to modify it.
I actually had a bit of hassle initially trying to get it to my satisfaction. After modifying, by hand which wasn’t fun, one of the retaining rings to fit the base of the OR triple, I found that the head would only seat about 1 and a 1/2 turns into the body, a Malkoff drop in with retaining ring was doing about 2 and a 1/2.
This wouldn’t do, I wanted it to thread on at least as much or more.
After some thinking I decided that it didn’t really need the retaining ring at all as I don’t intend to frequently remove it anyway. I placed a thin copper washer between the head/drop in and body and it worked beautifully.
Then I thought and observed some more. The trick is that it didn’t even need the washer either, the base of the drop in seats perfectly in the throat of the body with the ground ring slotting in nicely.
Anyway, here it is: 22.3 head, OR V4 HML 4000K XPG2, MD4, aluminium grip ring off an old Klarus and older style Malkoff tail cap.
I did cobble up an aluminium sleeve, which was tedious with file and sandpaper, to sit around the drop in for some extra bulk and also used some copper tape on the drop in and outside of the sleeve. Also added a thin o ring between the drop in and plastic lens so the optic isn’t hard up against.
Screws together solidly about 3 and a 1/4 turns.
The end result is a solid and compact 2x18650 light. The tint, and beam of course, of these particular XPG2 is really good.

I took some quick beamshots at 6 feet. Left to right...half used 123A primary. Middle Pic single RCR123A. Bottom pic 2 used 123A primaries. Next time I will use a fresh cell later tonight or tomorrow.
Have you done a runtime test with a fresh single cr123 primary with that 3.4-6v li-ion head yet? I’m curious to know the runtime on high

I completely forgot about it.... I was just about to do it tonight, but I think you got the information from another thread I read. If not let me know and I will run it no later than this weekend.
