I ordered the Malkoff VME conversion head for the Surefire Scout model, a 940nm P60-style engine, and a lens.

This particular light engine does not have a reflector capable of fitting under the VME bezel.

With lens installed, the threads won't start.

I was hoping to use this host for an IR source. Any other suggestions?

Yeah, come to think about it, I could chuck the reflector in a lathe and remove a few MM from the front.

I'm curious about the cause. These are both built to the same standard, so apparently one of them isn't. Trying other heads with this module and this module with other heads, which is it?

Did you remove the larger outer spring that is on many P60 drop ins?????
I believe M60 Malkoff device fits a Z2 exactly. Z2 head is significantly smaller interior than my Cabela's XPG and may also be smaller than other P60 compatables. Some hosts you must remove the spring others you must leave it on. I clipped a single ring of the outer spring to fill the gap on my R2 drop in when I place it in my Z2. I would think the interior of the VME would be real close to the Z2 size in order to make it as small as possible.

The VME head is optimized and sold for the Malkoff drop-ins, and most, if not all, other drop-ins do not fit. Also, the smaller opening in the front of the head, made for the Malkoff's, sort of precludes use with a wide reflector, even if it was made to fit, a lot of light being lost in the process.
