This year, there have been a number of all-in-ones bricked by on line updates. Some fairly famously.

This is why I prefer to build solar back up related items up from components and not connect them to the internet.

I'm having good results so far from my Oupes Exodus 600 I got for $119. Charging it most of the time with a 60 watt Rich Solar Panel that has Anderson connector ($45 on sale, free shipping). Got an 8 mm connector and a 2 to one Anderson parallel connector to run the Oupes on solar and bump up the 60 watts solar to 160 watts with a foldable 100 watt panel by HQST for $80. 8 mm connector was $12, 2 to 1 was $17. So I have a 600 watt max system that has a lithium iron phosphate battery rated for 3500 charges with 160 watts solar input for under $275. System runs a 19 liter 12 volt electric cooler very well 24/7 ($100 from Walmart) as well as charging lights, rechargeable handwarmers, and cell phones.

Just to add, the Oupes Exodus 600 has no apps, no firmware, nothing which connects to the internet or needs updates. The simplicity is that you can't screw something up too bad if you don't make it overly complicated. The more features, apps etc., the more that can and will go wrong.
