Hi,

What maximum temperature can the Li-Ion cells handle without noticeable shortening of lifespan and reducing the performance?

I'm designing temperature protection unit and I want to adjust temperature of activation.

A reasonable rule to follow is not to let them get any hotter than you are comfortable holding in your hand, with your hand closed round them.

If they get any hotter than that, they will start to deteriorate. It is not until they get too hot to hold that there is a risk of a dangerous thermal runaway, but bear in mind they can heat up quite rapidly under the wrong conditions (usually during charging) and it may take only a few minutes for a hand-temperature cell to become a dangerously hot one.

Hello LightForce,

A typical temperature specification has two parts. Charging is allowed in ambient temperatures of 0 - 45 C. Best charging temperature is 20 - 25 C. Discharging is allowed in ambient temperatures of -20 - 60 C. It is best to keep cell temperatures below 60 C.
