Updated 2-25 - added Haiku XR-E version - Youtube video updated and album updated

Did this for a fellow lover of CPF and McGizmos, but thought I'd share it with everyone. Over HERE, there is a 'slide show' that cycles through the photos and really lets you see the transition and the differences - over HERE are the photos in higher resolution.

Here's the situation - I was asked if the Nichia LED ring in the Lunasol 27 was as 'warm' as it looks in my avatar. I said yes, but thought perhaps a point of reference (the Sundrop XR-U) would be useful - ended up comparing 4 lights. The lights are in a mic holder about 4 feet from my Fender American Strat Deluxe :)o) - the camera is about 10 feet away so the entire spot could be captured. Camera is a bit overexposed at a 2 1/2 second shutter f/22, but I wanted the Sundrop to be properly exposed as a 'reference'. So here you go:

For what it is worth! Hope it is useful to you!

Great post! Now the sundrop xp has the original sundrop head, and the XR-U has the more focused head/ lens. Correct? Which of the two sundrops do you prefer for close work?

Thanks!

I still prefer the XR-U - since it has 3 levels the brightness can be adjusted accordingly. Since I use it for lighting small objects, the size of the beam is plenty large enough. The XP is great for filling a larger area with light - but the downside is that you have to position the light even closer.

I often carry the XR-U just because I love the size of the spot and the way it brings out colors...

Hope that helps!

Dan
