q is, are all of them good?

i want one that i can find small tips for, some metcals are sold cheap at ebay, like "stss-001" and "stss-002", "ps2e-01", etc, give me some more time and i might find out, but it'd be nice with some advice too.

You did pretty good on ebay. The difference between the models isn't much. The PS2E01 has an extra led (yellow) to tell you when there is a tip/wand wiring problem and disconnects the supply. They all work about the same. The new model mx500 has two ports and a switch on the front to switch between them, only one at a time. Before this they had a switch box as an add-on to allow you to do the same thing. If you are ever interested in the switch box let me know, have an extra. They also made a stand which held two PS and a switchbox in the middle, have those as well. Why the two port and switch box? You could run two handpieces each with different tips, heavy and light or standard handpiece and a Talon tweezer style which is VERY handy for surface mount removal of parts. Any way, good move on your part. You won't regret buying the Metcal. Once you use one you'll never want to use anything else. You can pick up tips on ebay for about 1/2 of retail ($20.00) but the fine tip ones usually go fast and for more money($15). Anyway to answer your question about what tips are available, here is the Metcal link to the STTC series for your iron. Where they list X as a prefix to the tip style, 0 = 500deg F and 1= 600 deg F if I remember right. Working on parts like Jarhead was using you might want to consider 500 F tips.
here's the link, hope this helps..
