hi,
bought the 3 x luxIII kit from modamag.
how do you secure the IMS reflectors to the star?
Sorry, this is my debut mod. TIA! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Can screwing down the lens scratch the glass or apply too much pressure directly to the reflectors/thus the star as well?

What damage can screwing the head too tightly do?

I just got my set too and am wondering the same things.

Wanna do it right the first time /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Tim.

The sink is designed so you can apply 20mm reflectors directly to the stars.

The star is a MCPCB - a plastic reflector can't damage it. If you leave the legs on, most of the pressure will go to the sink anyway. If you clip the legs off, some pressure will go to the plastic retaining ring on the Luxeons - but judging by a 3x3 I'm evaluating now, that will have no effect on the emitters long-term.

If you remove the lens frequently, it's possible that you could scratch it, but if it's the stock polycarbonate lens, it's going to be scratched up in short order anyway just from day-to-day use.

Oh, ok then. I have a UCL, which was why I am concerned with scratching it - it's still perfect and I want to keep it that way!!

I didn't check to see if the legs on the reflectors touch the sink - they should do in theory...

Will take a look at home tonight.

Got my 6D de-anodised today too - hoping to pick that up and polish out some dings and scratches before going Emerald Green anodising on the suckah!

Maybe I should go blue as I have aqua glow powder to mix up and use in the channels I intend to groove all the way up the shaft...

I think I need to fully custom make my own light soon from scratch.

UCL is substantially more scratch-resistant than polycarbonate - it's a great deal harder. It's impossible for the reflectors to scratch the UCL of themselves. Abrasive foreign particle(s) on the rim of the reflectors could scratch it, but that's not likely.
