MiniMag Bulb Upgrades

The brightest are made by Brinkmann, the Nextstar series.

Do a search for Nextstar, Nexstar, Brinkmann, etc. here on CPF, and it should come up. If I find it, I'll post it here.

They work fine.

The new Mag green bottom is brighter than the older lamp, but the Brinkmann is brighter than either.

Rechargeable AA's only provide 2.4 volts vs 3 for Alkalines and about 3.2-3.4 for Lithium AA's.

The brightest, whitest, light comes from the Brinkmanns on Lithiums.

However, the best light comes from a Lux III run on a MadMax or BadBoy sandwich.

What about the MJLED KIT by lambda they cost 10.00 and I hear they work great 35 hour runtime. and 180 lum at 1 meter.

I believe that's 180 Lux, not lumens. I wish you could get 180 lumens from a 5mm $6 LED upgrade.

if you want a REAL BRIGHT bulb for the minimag try the SL TT 1L bulb, it drawn about 1 amp

with 2 ni-mh cells you can obtain about 30lm

but with 2 lithium AA more than 40lm /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

very bright for a minimag /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Like Tesla I'm wondering what kind of mod might be need for that. I can get the TT 1L lamp easily enough. But I'm not so sure about what might need to be done to allow it to fit.

I have tried the streamlight bulb upgrade. It does not fit the reflector as is but will require it to be drilled out. It does work though and it is bright! I have not yet drilled mine out yet but plan on doing so this weekend.

I completed the upgrade by drilling out the reflector with an 11/64 bit and the new bulb went in without a hitch. I had to trim a little bit off the legs of the bulb and it worked fine.

I compared the light to another minimag with a brinkman bulb and the one with the Streamlight bulb was only slightly brighter to my eyes. I dont have any instruments to measure the output though.

All in all I believe the Brinkman bulbs represent the easiest way to go.
