Has anyone experimented with this? What were your impressions. Quite awhile ago I played with mixing white Nichias with other 5mm reds. It looked like it might have some promise but the beam angles and distributions differed between the two types of LEDs I was using resulting in an unsatisfying variation in color within the beam. Another oddity [some might call it a feature] was that since the two colors of light originated from slightly different points, shadows cast by objects would have a distinct colored fringe, suggestive of the visual effects of some, hmmm... substances.

doug,

You might wanna get in touch with McGizmo. He's got info on some very nice warm 5mms made by nichia. Warm and bright, right out of the box - very incandescent in color - nice!

Otherwise, I've had good results warming up white with a mixture of green and reds (which gives a fairly nice and full yellow).

But watch out for fringey shadows and pyschedelic effects if the LEDs are spaced too far apart!

I put a red and blue in place of the middle 2 lights of an Eternalight.

I liked the red/blue and 1 white combo as you enter the final sequence of dim settings. It is a nice medium bright night light.

All works fine except the Eternalight will "skip" over one of the 12 or so brightness settings.

This was probably due to the different characteristics of the Red and Blue LED's. All the other modes worked normally.

I finished making a hand held lantern this past weekend. It has a White and a Cyan LS that is switchable to one or both. Very nice light for outside use. With both lamps on, I get a shadow that has Cyan on one side and Red, of all things, on the other.
