I use an AA inspection light all the time. It has a 'bendable' 12 inch long stem and a small and expensive proprietary incandescent bulb. Its always breaking from hard use in the shop. Great for looking down spark plug holes etc.

Anyway , after modifying a couple of AA Mags with Lambda's MJLEDs, and loving the results, I made up a
5mm MJLED bulb to work with my inspection light. A little soldering and a new housing and wow.....

Even with Alkalines, it far brighter than stock and with Lithiums it is amazing.

I have the same light (or close to it) and would like to know what you did. Mine has a PITA plastic body that's difficult to remove the bottom switch to change the batteries.

How did you remove the original bulb and solder the MJLED into the bulb's screw base?

And is the MJLED useful w/o a reflector? When I tried a Mag w/o the head, it wasn't very exciting.

Mine has a one inch piece of metal, about 1/4" in diameter and one inch long. It houses the bulb and screws onto the shaft.

I cut it open and removed the old bulb and fabricated a new housing .

It is designed to work in close quarters so seems to work well without reflector.

Mine looks the same, but is obviously different in that the base of the bulb is half the size. It's 1/8 x 3/8 and the diameter of the shaft matches the 1/8 bulb.
