Copied from Lighthound. Loaned out to me for one night from JohnC.

This flashlight starts life as a respectable MC-E LED flashlight, and is then upgraded with a new converter and an incredibly bright SST-90 LED. This flashlight has been tested at 729 REAL Lumens, and blows away flashlights that are rated at 900 lumens. The 26650 battery provides an incredibly long run time, and the convenience of charging a single battery for 2 full hours of usage on high, over 40 hours on medium, and hundreds of hours on low. The excellent heatsinking provides virtually no fade due to heat and the flashlight can be run for extended periods without overheating.

Anyone know where to find the host prior to modification? Also, what MKN might stand for. Noticed the batteries are labeled same.

I've seen the host befor online.Don't remeber how I found it though. MKN are the initials of the guy who put this light together.

Sorry about the lousy pics everyone. The way I usually take pics is I shoot about 50 of them and keep the best 4 or 5.

The size of this light is about the same as a Surefire 6p. Aprox. 1/2 in taller and the body diameter is a somewhere between a C maglite and a D maglite.

This light has no regulation and it is kinda stocky and inspite of what the pictures show. It takes a 26650 which is a heavy IMR 26650 4000mAh cell. I like the design and cell choice, but at close to $190 delivered with CPF discount I think its too much money. If it was regulated maybe, but its not.

Now; the only way I think its worth the $190ish is if it has a huge cooper custom heatsink and pulls more than 5A succesfully.

If anybody purchases this light send it my way for OTF testing:thumbsup:

Not me,a friend.

Somebody's got to do the report!

After playing with that light for awhile it's not for me . Mostly because I don't have the $$ right now. Like I said before,VERY BRIGHT! It didn't seem to get but just a little warm after 15 mins or so of constant on. The finish was equal to that of my Solarforce L2P HAIII. It was heavier than most my lights but maybe a little lighter than my EagleTac.

Under all but the most extreme circumstances I'm a $99.99 guy - no more.

10 amp boost circuit in this size?

this don't exist

I think too the price its expansive. led 60$ +body with mc-e 40-70$ = 130 $ max

I want buy only one but all the dealers have Min. Order 5 units

I purchased this light because of the statement that it was "tested at 729 REAL lumens". While I don't have any fancy test equipment I can compare it to my TK30, 3 TK40s, 2 M1Xs, and Catapult.

I will use the TK30 to describe it as my TK30 sample is the weakest of the lights I listed.

At about two feet from a white wall the TK30 has a slightly larger beam pattern with each lights hotspot the same size. It is obvious the TK30 hotspot and spill are both significantly brighter. I asked my wife which light appeared brighter and she pointed to the TK30. I asked her if it was close, she said no.

At 25ft on a white wall the MKN hotspot is twice the size of the TK30 but the TK30 beam still covers more area and is brighter in all respects.

Shining them both in the back yard at my fence 40yards away the one advantage of the MKN is the hotspot is so big it makes for a bright wide swath of light. If you are trying to see any detail at 35 yards around the base of the pine trees or back at the fence the TK30 hotspot lights it up better.

This light reminds me of my Olight M21 and in fact at 18 inches from the wall the beams of these two lights are almost identical. The MKN being just very slightly larger in beam size and it appears roughly 100 lumens brighter but the M21 has the brighter hotspot.

Both lights are decent but a disappointment. At least we knew Olight was quoting 500 emitter lumens when they released the M21. There is no way this MKN is putting out 700 lumens. It cannot "Blow Away" my 630 lumen and 700 Lumen lights let alone my 900 lumen light. In fact it gets spanked by a 630 lumen TK30 and don't even compare it to an M1X or Catapult. I believe Bigchelis tested a TK40 at 570 actual lumens so I would tag the MKN SST-90 at roughly 450 lumens OTF.

I order a lot from Lighthound and think they are great but they really should send Bigchelis a couple of these for testing and then put an honest rating on them.

If anyone is interested here are the tailcap current readings.
Hi - Climbs from 2.87 at turn on to just over 3 amps after 20 sec.
Med - 800ma
Low - 270ma

If someone was looking for a good 35-40 yard light this would be one of the best. Otherwise quite a disappointment.
