I decided to try to modify an extra Ultrafire Li-ion charger to fit AW's C cells. Just nothing but dremel work and some quick desoldering.
Here's the unit loaded with two AW C cells:
And it still works with 18650 cells:
Although it is a little cockeyed if you mix one of each:
I started by removing the interior circuit board. Just remove two screws on the back (one is under the label) and pop it right out. Then I desoldered the 4 contacts along the side of the circuit board and removed them. Then it was just dremel work with assorted cutoff and sanding discs. It only took a couple of trial fits to get enough space to fit the cells and be able to make contact. I removed a little too much when trying to expose the positive contacts, so I need to fill back in the area behind them. Once everything fit nicely, I just popped the circuit board back in and screwed it back together and it works fine. Later I may try to go back and fill in the open areas with epoxy for a better appearance.
