how can i mod this APC green laser to IR laser and reduce the power ( for safely .. i want to use it in nightvision )
thx

Very easy, just remove the KTP crystals, then it's a bare IR diode. (green is DPSS, where there is a .5 - 2.5W IR diode pumping KTP crystals to chang the wavelength from IR to green) Cant help you with the power regulating, though.

Night vision with a greenie ??
The power pot is set to about half. Connect a mA meter from the cells to the module and adjust for lower current - at some point, it might stop lasing and you will need to turn it up. You didn't say what the rated power of the pictured module is currently and how much you want.
We need more info to help.

I expect the biggest problem you'll run into is that the collimating lens is designed for the 532nm wavelength. Trying to run longer wave 808nm IR through the same optics will result in a diverging beam, not much different than a concentrated IR flashlight (except that the output will be specifically one-wavelength, and coherent). This is what you see with lasers that have crappy filtering -- a corona of IR around the green "dot".

I agree with Dr. Lava. (not to mention that LEDs are more energy efficient, more durable, cheaper, and give a longer battery life)

Also, for night vision, don't you want a broader flield of view than a laser will provide??? Some benefits are to be had with a littlle spill from the beam.

The IR LED's would be a heck of a lot less dangerous, too ! As it is - the uncollimated IR from a greenie will wash out like a flood light - but if you manage to collimate it well, you could end up with a dangerous focused invisble light source that can cause damage easily, before you know it ! Be careful with this project...

remove the black photodiode and remove both of the wires for the apc.

below that you will have a semicircle with a crystal in it. grab a pair of pliers break the glue that holds it on ( twist not pull ). If you ever want to be able to use it as a greenie again, mark both the housing and the crystal set alignment.

Now you'll have a 200mw+ IR laser that is uncolliminated. If you have the full cllliminating optics for that lasers ( brass tube that screws of and the lense you can change the focus with inside of that) then just screw it back on, and screw the external focusing lense ( again glued ) in as far as you can get it.

Now break out you night vision/non ir filtered camera and IR laser goggles and slowly start taking the focusing lense out until you get a dot rather than a spotlight. presto IR laser.
